For fans that were able to catch the holiday special episode of Sherlock are likely to be tingling at what they can expect when Sherlock Season 4 begins. Fans for the very popular detective show are going to have to wait a while for season 4 as it has been slated to premiere sometime in 2017. The odds are good that it will be in the first half of the year rather than the last part, but confirmation has yet to come right from the network.
In the meantime, fans will have to wait around and speculate what they are going to see after the spectacular holiday episode that aired a few weeks ago. If you were not paying attention to the holiday episode, there seems to be a good chance that Sherlock Season 4 will bring a back story that has been hinted at many times before. Those hints have been seen online, as well as during the show up to this point.
Everyone wants to know the back story of Sherlock and it looks like the holiday episode pointed to Sherlock’s Redbeard and his passed. There has been some speculation posted online about Redbeard and that was even before season four was first talked about. According to the show runner and cast member, Mark Gatiss, Sherlock’s dog died and the idea was that Redbeard went to live in some happy valley somewhere. The hints are being dissected online and even one fan posted on Reddit that it just happens to be a shot at misdirection.
Now that the holiday episode is over, fans are expecting that Sherlock and Moriarty will be back at each other when Sherlock Season 4 starts up next year. Season four is also going to focus a lot on family and even more challenges for Sherlock and his crew. Between Sherlock and Moriarty, the drama will be back as the two take shots at each other while trying to figure each other out. For those that are not sure the show is coming back, it has been confirmed by a few characters.
When the show does come back it will feature Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Amanda Abbington, Louise Brealey and Jonathan Aris, as well. As far as what story line will be featured when the show comes back, the general consesus is that it will be about the woman that was found dead during the holiday episode when Holmes when back in time to the 19th century. The dead woman came back to life and that was enough to add a cliffhanger feeling to the end of season three. Even though the fourth season will be released next year, production for that season is set to begin in April of this year.
