Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. HTC One M9: What Does the Rumor Brigade Say about the Spec-Sheet

Apple is currently enjoying a free run around the global market with their iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, primarily due to the lack of serious competition, although, this is about to change soon. Fall 2015, manufacturers such as HTC and Samsung are expected to come up with the One M9 and Galaxy S6 respectively.

Both these devices should launch close to the Mobile World Congress, which is scheduled for 2nd to 5th March, although, the official date is yet to be announced. Christian Today revealed in their previous post that HTC is looking forward to launching the One M9 in March 2015, much like the One M8, which launched this year around the same time.

Ordoh reported that the Samsung Galaxy S6 is expected to release along the same period. The Galaxy S5 released along the same time frame this year while we could witness the launch of multiple devices such as the Galaxy Note 4 and the Note Edge next year. However, before we venture out into the price tag, we compare the Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. HTC One M9, based on rumors that are presently circulating.

Both these devices are expected to feature 5-inch plus displays while the One M9 is likely to keep the same 5.2-inch display that is sported by its predecessor – the One M8. The display resolution has however been updated from 1,080 pixels to 1,440 pixel. We could also be looking at a QHD display as mentioned by Air Herald.

The Samsung Galaxy S6, on the other hand, keeps Samsung’s reputed 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display with the same 1,440 pixel resolution from its predecessor. While the Samsung Galaxy S4 boasted of a 5-inch display, the S5 has a 5.1-inch capacitive touchscreen. Hence, if Samsung goes by their current trend, the Galaxy S6 is likely to sport a 5.2-inch display!

In terms of processing capacity, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the HTC One M9 are rumored to sport a hexa-core Snapdragon 805 chipset or the even better octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, which supports a 64-bit architecture. Both devices are expected to sport close to 3 GB of RAM.

Both smartphones are rumored to run on Android v5.0 Lollipop. Hence, it terms of operation both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the HTC One M9 should feature similar performance. However, the S6 could sport a better camera, if HTC does not decide to come up with an M9 Eye.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is rumored to sport a 20 MP primary camera while the HTC One M9 should sport a 13 MP primary lens. While Samsung has pitched the Galaxy S6 at $900, the HTC One M9 should set you back by $820.
