A little over three weeks since its official launching at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona, Spain on March 1, the highly-spruced up and groundbreaking new flagship models of the Samsung, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge will finally hit the retail market on March 23 in India.
The Korean tech giant has picked India to roll out its latest flagship devices as the country is its largest market in Asia. While China is the biggest market in the continent, Samsung has plenty of competition in the Chinese market especially from the likes of Xiaomi and Huawei, which are the third and fourth largest smartphone makers in the world, respectively.
Samsung will eventually roll out the refreshing dual edge display design of both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge in the US where the flagship devices are expected to compete head on with the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Ready to rebound
Based on the premium look of the Samsung’s flagship devices that it has shown during the MWC 2015, it looks like the Korean tech company would get the rebound that it badly needs after getting a beating from Apple last year.
The American tech company has actually dislodged Samsung as the biggest smartphone maker in the US and in many other retail markets in the world because of the disappointing sales performance of the Samsung Galaxy S5.
After dominating the global smartphone market in 2013, Samsung slowed down on innovation and rolled out the Samsung Galaxy S5 last year, which hardly showed any improvement to its best-selling Samsung Galaxy S4 the year before.
As a result, consumers were turned off by Samsung’s seeming lack of foresight that many have decided to switch to Apple and other smartphone brands, that resulted to steep drops in sales for the Korean tech company for three consecutive quarters last year.
Having learned its lesson the hard way, Samsung did not spare any effort to make sure that its current flagship devices would be extraordinary. It certainly looks that way and some of those who have had the opportunity to try out the devices confirm that Samsung’s new flagships are groundbreaking alright.
Similar features
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge have the same screen size and curved glass that covers the three sides of the smartphones, have the same type of camera and high resolution, and most of their features are the same, notes FirstPost.
But the Samsung Galaxy S6 has unique and distinct features like the multi-color edge lights, which lights up each time someone calls. The multi-color variety enables the user to assign specific colors to various callers for easier identification.
The notifications and other shortcuts can already be found on the sides, the universal interface is now very customizable, the devices have bigger betteries, and the smartphone is now made up of metal and glass, instead of the plastic that Samsung has been so used to for its Galaxy S series smartphones in the past.
