Early last month, reports started coming out that the 2016 editions of the midrange smartphones, Samsung Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J5 will come out after the latest flagship handsets of the Korean tech giant are finally unveiled and officially make it into the retail markets.
The speculations started coming along following Samsung’s launching of the Galaxy J1 in January in Dubai. As part of the J series, users were expecting that this year’s edition of the Galaxy J7 and the Galaxy J5 will also come out rather early.
Both the Galaxy J7 and the Galaxy J5 made it to the markets in June of last year.
The latest flagship smartphones of Samsung, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, were officially unveiled during the Korean tech giant’s press event before the start of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 on February 21 at Barcelona, Spain. The flagship handsets will officially make it to the retail markets on March 11.
With that being said, the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) and the Galaxy J5 (2016) are expected to be launched and make it to the retail markets anytime from March 12 onwards.
However, latest reports now indicate that the Galaxy J7 (2016) and the Galaxy J5 (2016) will come out in June this year and allow its predecessors to complete its customary one-year market cycle.
Critics believe that it would be a good move for Samsung since it has to allow its latest flagship smartphones to gain steam first in the market before launching another handset or handsets. The three-month period from March until June would be enough for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge to establish themselves as the Android flagship smartphones to beat this year.
Two processor variants
Based on its soft launch during the GFXBench event in January, the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) shall sport a 5.5-inch display with a remarkable 1,920 x 1,080 screen resolution.
It shall be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocking at 1.5 GHz, and running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It shall have an Adreno 405 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage, 12-megapixel main camera, and 5-megapixel front snapper.
The Galaxy J7 (2016) shall also come with add-on features like accelerometer, Bluetooth, compass, GPS, light sensor, NFC, proximity, and Wi-Fi, details the International Business Times of India.
When Samsung dropped the Galaxy J7 (2015) last year, it was meant to take advantage of the so-called Selfie Generation with its tailored front-facing camera complete with flash.
The Galaxy J7 (2016) shall also come with another processor which according to reports will be the less familiar Exynos 7870, a jump from the Exynos 7580, which shall clock at 1.7GHz, notes the Phone Arena.
However, based on the leaks, the Exynos 7870-powered Galaxy J7 (2016) shall only have a 2GB of RAM, which makes it inferior to the 3GB RAM of the Snapdragon 615 chipset.
The Galaxy J7 (2016) will still be a mid-range smartphone but certainly a better mid-ranger than its predecessor.
With two strong cameras, a sizeable 3,000 mAH battery, a full-HD display, and a Marshmallow OS to go around, the refreshed Galaxy J7 is bound to entice a market fixated with the selfie stick.
Cheaper than its predecessor?
The Samsung Galaxy J1 has quietly gone on sale in Dubai this year before the latest versions of the Galaxy J5 and the Galaxy J7 were launched during the recent GFXBench event.
The even better news for consumers is that the 2016 edition of Galaxy J7 is actually cheaper than its 2015 variant.
Reports have it that Samsung decided to launch a refreshed version of its J series in anticipation of the strong competition posed by Chinese smartphone manufacturers.
The Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) may still carry the same name, but it offers better specifications and more value to consumers.
The performance level of the mid-range smartphone is somewhat heightened and is now in a better position to run most apps and games at full HD resolution.
