‘Rick and Morty’ Popularity Spurs Plenty of By-products to Keep Fans Preoccupied While Waiting for Season 3!

Season 3 of the adult animated TV series “Rick and Morty” on Adult Swim shall reportedly premiere in March next year. But because it is still more than a year away, fans and viewers of the TV series have been trying to keep themselves busy with something else while waiting for the return to the small screen of their favorite show.

The good news is that because of the popularity of “Rick and Morty,” the show has actually spurred plenty of by-products including video games, cartoons, comics, and a lot of interviews, mostly related to the TV series that help keep them preoccupied.

As aptly described by Inverse, true fandom really manifests between seasons of a TV show. Since “Rick and Morty” is a TV series that prides itself in its complexity and multi-verse approach to reality, fans are now finding alternate forms of entertainment from the show’s creators and affiliates as they enthusiastically wait for Season 3.

A popular video game from the TV show

Obviously, the most popular of alternate forms of “Rick and Morty” entertainment is the mobile video game “Pocket Mortys.”

Adult Swim Games released the mobile game app “Pocket Mortys” on January 13 that transmogrifies Rick and Morty into a Pokemon game for both Android and iOS mobile devices.

The player needs to steer Rick around the Citadel of Ricks and portal-connected dimensions, in pursuit of loose Mortys, to forcefully microchip and add to the gamer’s growing army of child combatants.

So far, “Pocket Mortys” has been getting a rapturous reception on Twitter and a five-star score in the iOS App Store.

It is almost sure that fans and viewers of “Rick and Morty,” the TV series, will be hooked to the mobile game too.

However, critics believe that it is unlikely for the TV series to have a similar Pokemon parody episode as in the “Pocket Mortys.”

But one element of “Pocket Mortys” that might emerge on the show is the expanded variety of dimensional-variant Ricks and Mortys. While most alt-dimension universe Ricks and Mortys seen in episodes of Rick and Morty still look like Rick and Morty, “Pocket Mortys” stretches the boundaries of dimensional variety.

Beyond such element, it seems unlikely that any other element from “Pocket Mortys” will be adapted to Season 3 of “Rick and Morty” because the game actually does not do much to expand on the mythology of the TV series.

Other forms of alternate entertainment

There is also Adult Swim Games’ “Rick and Morty Presents: Jerry’s Game” which is a satirical game that specifically lambast people who buy useless mobile games and spend actual money on them.

Then there is also “Rick and Morty’s Rushed Licensed Adventure” which is designed to look like an NES style 8-bit game. It is a point-and-click adventure that features Justin Roiland’s voice acting complete with belches, improvisational-sounding halts, and repetitions. Roiland also lent his voice to the “Rick and Morty Announcer Pack” for “DoTA 2.”

For those who are content with the voice talent of Justin Roiland, they can settle for other cartoons including “House of Cosbys,” “Solar Opposites,” and “The Real Animated Adventures of Doc and Mharti.”

For the readers, there are also the “Rick and Morty” comics that are not written by Roiland or Dan Harmon but Zac Gorman, which is the reason why the art differs slightly from the show’s aesthetic.

And as if those are still not enough to while away the time of fans and viewers while waiting for Season 3 of “Rick and Morty,” Justin Roiland’s podcast alongside Ryan Ridley and Jackie Buscarino is now back too.

Called “The Grandma’s Virginity Podcast,” it returned on January 24 with a brand new episode, the first since August 2013.
