According to Twinfinite, the title “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” hints that this sequel will be the sixth and last movie in the franchise. Following the story of “Resident Evil: Retribution,” Alice once more sets off on a mission to stop the Red Queen from destroying humanity.
The movie is set to be released on September 2, 2016. Other cast members are rumored to include actors Wentworth Miller, Sienna Guillroy, Spencer Locke, and others.
The “Resident Evil” series is based on the Capcom “Resident Evil” video games, created by Shinji Mikami. The video game falls under the genre of action adventure horror fiction game, more commonly known as survival horror. The first game in the series was released in 1996 and was initially made as a puzzle-solving game. However, with the release of “Resident Evil 4” in 2005, the game took a third-person shooter mode.
In 1997, Constantine Film bought the rights to the first film, and in 2001, distribution rights were acquired by Sony with the engagement of Paul W. S. Anderson as the movie’s writer. The first film, released in 2002, was written by Anderson, along with his engagement as writer and producer for the following sequels “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” and “Resident Evil: Extinction;” while “Resident Evil: Afterlife” and “Resident Evil: Retribution” were under his helm as film director only.
The plot follows a bio-engineering pharmaceutical company called Umbrella Corporation. The corporation produces bioweapons and is responsible for a zombie apocalypse by releasing a so-called T-virus, thus infecting earth’s population. The character of Alice, the protagonist of the series, begins to fight the corporation in a mission to save the earth.
“Resident Evil” series is considered to be the highest-grossing film based on video games, with box-office earnings of $915 million worldwide. The first sequel of the movie was shown in 2002.
The plot of the first sequel details about Umbrella Corporation’s secret research facility called The Hive, set beneath Racoon City. The Red Queen has sealed the Hive due to the release of the T-Virus. The virus transforms humans into highly aggressive zombies, and after Alice manages to escape the facility, she wakes up from a coma into a world of zombies even as the T-virus is released.
The second sequel “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” was released in 2004, mainly following the events of the previous movie. The outbreak of the T-Virus causes Alice to engage in a battle for survival, along with battles with Cain and Nemesis. Alice is eventually taken to the Umbrella Corporation research station in Detroit. She manages to escape the facility and finds that she has developed superhuman powers. As she is taken away by two of her rescuers, a logo of the Umbrella Corporation appears in her eyes, and the “Project Alice Activated” line appears in Isaac’s computer.

Great, good to hear.
