Meanwhile, game publisher Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that it will go with developer Rockstar Games when it comes to the launching of franchise games, clarifying earlier reports that it plans to annualize rollout of Rockstar Games franchises.
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar Games, said that it is always better for them to create demand and anticipation for non-sport titles to bring out the highest quality of work on its video games, which will be difficult to achieve with annual releases.
He believes that sports titles like the NBA 2K, the WWE2K, or the FIFA franchises deserved to be annualized because they follow a regular season year in and year out but that is not how it goes for their permanent franchises.
Zelnick explained that while they may have an up-and-down profit bottom line over the years, the fact of the matter is that those high points more than offset the down points of their returns so it is like them having an annualized business just the same.
He said that it is better that way for Rockstar Games than doing it yearly and burning their intellectual properties by reducing its quality because they are pressed for time in game development.
