For a little while fans of the first Prometheus movie were wondering if Ridley Scott was going to release a sequel to his masterpiece. The movie hit theaters back in 2012 and immediately was a favorite among the sci-fi junkies and those that liked the many other Alien movies from Scott. The movie explores the vast world of aliens and for the most part was reportedly a prequel to the popular Alien movie series. For a few months now, there has been very little said about the sequel.
The sequel is referred to simply as, Prometheus 2 and this week there may have been some spoilers and release date information revealed online. Knowing that most of the humans in the first film were dead by the end of the movie, it certainly left huge holes that should be filled by another movie. The Engineers that planned to ruin the advancement of humanity were stopped more than 2,000 years ago and now where is the next movie going to go?
The main character, Elizabeth Shaw has been launched into space with hopes of finding out why the Engineers want to end the human race. A bold move since she is really the only human left, but she was traveling with the head of David, hoping to find him another body. Fans say the movies are the prequels to the Alien movies, but that has been denied many different times. With the first movie doing so well, it was easy to see that any number of movies that come up after that one will do just as well at the box office.
Ridley Scott did say that there is plenty of work done on the newest movie. He was quoted as saying that there were “15 drafts evolving” and it has been written. He also said that he would like to make the second film because he had a lot of fun filming the first one. For fans, that means a lot and hopefully they can get those drafts figured out and made into an actual film sooner than later.
Scott, which has been doing random interviews throughout the last 12 months, has been leaving little hints about this or that for fans of the first Prometheus movie. One of the main questions was about Elizabeth Shaw and if the story continued with her. He said that it did, of course, you “can’t have a person go off into the galaxy” and just forget about her altogether. Plus there is the unfinished story of David, so it would appear there are plenty of things to tie up.
