There were reports coming out a few months ago that the sequel to the highly-successful science-fiction flick “Prometheus” released in 2012 has been given a playdate of March 2016. The rumors also alluded that filming for the movie has reportedly begun then but were being done in strict secrecy.
The same report also claimed that the working title for the movie was “Prometheus 2: Hell on Earth,” which was consistent with the other rumors that the sequel will be shot in the engineers’ home planet which happens to be earth.
Now, it is fast shaping up that all those rumors are not true at all and were most likely fabricated and circulated by wildly enthusiastic fans of the franchise in the absence of an official statement from the producers.
“Prometheus 2” will not come out in March 2016 that’s for sure and there has been no filming that has been carried out this year. It shall also not carry the title “Prometheus 2: Hell on Earth,” notes Crossmap.
The latest report, which appears to be more plausible than most of the previous rumors about “Prometheus 2,” is that the screenplay for the sequel has just been completed recently and that filming for the movie would begin in January next year. Given such timeline, it is possible that the movie is in the pre-production stage at this point.
No xenomorphs this time
There were also reports early this year saying that Ridley Scott mentioned the possibility of xenomorphs not showing up at all in “Prometheus 2.”
According to the reports, instead of the xenomorphs, “Prometheus 2” would feature new villains that according to Ridley Scott would be more interesting and deadlier too.
Based on the supposed interview with Ridley Scott, the director was quoted as saying that having the xenomorphs on “Prometheus 2” wears out a little bit because there is only so much snarling that they can do in the movie.
In fact, some reports say that there will be two new creatures that are closely linked to the xenomorphs which would come out in “Prometheus 2.” So, the new creatures are technically not xenomorphs but are related to the same creatures.
More than two “Prometheus” sequels
Accordingly, the movie will be shot in Australia and possibly in Canada too and that Ridley Scott appears interested in connecting the movie to the “Alien” franchise, reports Moviepilot.
In a recent interview by a German magazine with Ridley Scott, he was asked if it would be in “Prometheus 2” where the connection between the first “Alien” film will be made given the fact that the finale of the classic movie saw the Engineer ship crash-landing on LV-426 with the xenomorph embryos on board.
Scott said that the connection will be made, but it will not be on the next one, meaning “Prometheus 2.” He said that it will in the one after “Prometheus 2” or maybe in the fourth film.
The good news about the statement of Ridley Scott is that there will certainly be a “Prometheus 3” and possibly a “Prometheus 4.”
The producer and director said that the whole point of having a “Prometheus” movie series is to explain the “Alien” franchise and provide answers on how and why the first saga was created itself.
Scott also added that he always thought of “Alien” as sort of a piece of bacterial warfare. He said that he thinks of the original ship as a battleship holding those bio-mechanoid creatures that were all about destruction. He actually calls the ship as the Croissant.
