‘Prometheus 2’ Movie Gets First Official Set Photo Through an Arm Patch for the Covenant Colony Ship Mission!

The sequel to the 2012 science-fiction space suspense thriller “Prometheus,” officially titled “Alien: Covenant,” just had its first official set photo released recently by 20th Century Fox. The photo featured an arm patch for the Covenant colony ship’s mission to the decimated plate of the Engineers, reports iDigital Times.

The patch contains a prop from the movie “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark,” movie enthusiasts note. It is actually the Ark of the Covenant, which, based on legend, is the gold-plated acacia wood chest that destroyed cities, decimated armies, and made rivers dry up in advance of the Israelite army.

The first official set photo from “Alien: Covenant” is nothing earth-shattering actually. It does not involve any recognizable cast members or the scary xenomorph alien or any shocking revelations. It is just a uniform patch, rendered in a lovely sky blue, with a corporate slogan around the edges and the name of the colony ship, Covenant, on the inside, details Slash Film.

However, it confirms one interesting detail that the Weyland Corp, that was featured in “Prometheus” back in 2012, will have undergone a merger with another company to become Weyland-Yutani in “Alien: Covenant.”

What the Ark of the Covenant means in the film

Having the Ark of the Covenant in the movie “Alien: Covenant” actually gives a hint of the plotline of the upcoming film.

Apparently, the Engineers belong to a race genetically identical to humans but do not look humans at all. They were the ones who created humans but eventually decided to destroy them eventually because they suddenly grew out of control.

If one would compare it to the old testament of the bible, that was what God did to people before, during, and after the time of Noah. Noah and his family were saved from God’s destruction of the world by the Ark.

However, this connection remains as speculation at this time pending the confirmation from Director Ridley Scott.

Second of the prequel trilogy

“Alien: Covenant” is the second movie of a prequel trilogy to “Alien.” So as not to confuse fans and viewers, the producers may have decided to complete first the prequel trilogy before “Alien 5,” the latest sequel to the very successful sci-fi film franchise starring Sigourney Weaver.

Early last year, reports started going around that Neil Bonkenkamp was already tapped to direct “Alien 5” but towards the close of 2015, it has been confirmed that the project was put on hold pending the completion of the next two films of the prequel trilogy.

“Alien: Covenant” is slated to air on August 4, 2017, and the third film is likely to come one or two years after so the earliest that “Alien 5” could come out is in 2019.

There have been numerous speculations about the possible plotline of “Alien: Covenant” but it was practically confirmed when the movie’s official synopsis was released late last year.

The synopsis clearly states that “Alien: Covenant” shall connect directly to Director Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction in “Alien.”

The film shall focus on the crew of the colony ship Covenant which discovered what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark and dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David, to be reprised by Michael Fassbender, the lone survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

With that being said, it is also clear that actress Noomi Rapace, who played Elizabeth Shaw in “Prometheus” shall no longer be in “Alien: Covenant.”

In fact, Ridley Scott recently confirmed that Noomi Rapace as the main actress of “Prometheus” has been taken out on the next film.

It can be recalled that towards the end of “Prometheus,” Elizabeth Shaw and David flew away from the planet onboard an alien spacecraft before viewers finally got a glimpse of the Xenomorph alien.
