While the movie is still more than 20 months away from hitting global cinemas, the main plotline of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is already starting to clear up and it seems that it is really going to be full of fun and excitement.
Disney has apparently learned its lesson from the last two movies of the franchise when it deviated from its usual formula of highlighting the adventures and misadventures of Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, in a comical way.
While the box-office results of the last two films of the franchise were relatively good, it paled in comparison to the second movie of the series.
The fourth movie of the franchise, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” was the lowest-grossing film in the series in North America, raking in a total of $241 million and Disney would sure like to find out if “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” can redeem the franchise.
It seems that Disney would not just settle for the fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie to surpass the box-office haul of the fourth film. It is looking to make the upcoming movie be at par or perhaps even better with the highest-grossing film of the franchise. That reputation currently belongs to the second movie of the franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” which is the highest-grossing in the film series in North America, grossing $423 million.
Two captains and the ghost pirates
Much of the fun and excitement of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is expected to emanate from the plotline where Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem, will go after Captain Jack, because he blames the latter for the death of his brother.
Salazar was a captain who operated from the 18th century. He leads a deadly horde of ghost pirates and was an old nemesis of Captain Jack Sparrow. He ended up at some point in a place known as the Devil’s Triangle, but he managed to escape with the goal of killing every pirate at sea and also get his revenge on Captain Jack, details KpopStarz.
The chase and the confrontation between Captain Salazar and Captain Jack, with all the ghost pirates thrown into the mix, would sure be full of fun, excitement, and comedic moments too. It would be Captain Jack at his best again which was what the fans of the franchise sorely missed in the last two films of the franchise.
Not a reboot
While the fifth movie of the franchise appears to be a reboot of the whole thing, it is definitely not. The producers just decided to redirect the course of the fifth film after the last two movies of the franchise veered off course.
It was actually British actress Kaya Scodelario who said in a recent interview that “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will be similar to the first film, which is considered a classic.
Scodelario disclosed that the upcoming fifth movie of series will be a lot more like the “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” which is the first movie of the franchise. She added that the story will go back to the beginning and tie things up, notes the International Business Times.
The “Maze Runner” actress says her character in the “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is Carina Smyth. She will be an astronomer and an academician and that she will be fighting for her right to study in the university because having women pursue such vocation is something not normal during the early days.
Her role will intertwine with the goal of Captain Jack Sparrow as Carina will also be looking for the Trident of Poseidon. She has a diary which shall offer them clues on how to find what they were looking for. But typical of Captain Jack, he will mess everything up and that’s where all the fun and misadventures begin.
