Pirates of the Caribbean 5 May not Be a Direct Sequel, Is a Reboot on the Way? Let’s See

It’s hard to say that a lot of people predicted the success of “Pirates of the Caribbean” when it came out about a decade ago, but it’s a fact that the film went down as a highly successful, profitable production that spawned several sequels of varying degrees of quality. And while fans have been eager to get more of the same story and see Captain Jack Sparrow go on yet another adventure, the new “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” might actually take the story in a slightly different direction, according to rumors.

We’ve been hearing various claims about the plot of the new film and some of them seem quite plausible, while others are a bit questionable. One of the rumors we’re hearing is that the film is going to introduce a new antagonist, someone who could have a direct grudge with the Captain related to a family tragedy.

This will send Captain Jack Sparrow on yet another mystic quest looking after a peculiar item that is supposed to grant him special powers he’ll need to overcome his foe. Meanwhile, there will be a side plot about another family issue although we’re not sure how deeply integrated into the main storyline that could be.

But other than that, most of the rumors have been talking about a potential reboot once the new installment rolls around. The films were originally planned as a trilogy, but once the third one came out it was clear that people wanted to see a lot more from their favorite pirate, and Disney released “Pirates of the Caribbean 4”, although the storyline in that film was a bit disappointing to many fans.

Some critics have pointed out that the writers messed up particularly badly with Penelope Cruz, as her introduction into the cast was a welcomed change by fans but the writers themselves didn’t put her character to good use. She was seen as a very flat, one-dimensional character who didn’t really add anything interesting to the story and could have been left out completely. Some saw that as a desperate move to improve ratings by relying on the popularity of Penelope Cruz too.

And now, “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” could completely redo the cast and introduce new characters, new backstories and new motivations for everyone around. What could the implications be for Captain Jack Sparrow? While the rumors do claim that the producers are considering starting basically from scratch, it would make no sense to remove Johnny Depp’s character from the franchise, considering that he’s practically its icon.

Sure, it would certainly shake things up significantly – but most definitely not in a good way. The Captain is one of the main reasons for some people to even watch these films, and if he was taken out of the equation, that could spell disaster for the entire franchise. The fifth installment is quite critical right now, because it will either solidify the slight negativity that surrounded “Pirates of the Caribbean 4”, or launch this franchise into a new era.

One possibility that’s been discussed in some of those rumors is that the new film could have a bit more romance in its plot, as the writers are apparently looking to develop the stories of some side characters and explore their love interests and more intimate lives. Would that make sense for “Pirates of the Caribbean”? If it’s done in a tasteful way, it would surely work out.
