‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Actor Johnny Depp Tops Forbes’ List of Most Overpaid Actors in 2015!

Actor Johnny Depp has snatched the crown for the ludicrous reputation as the most overpaid actor of 2015 based on Forbes’ infamous list. The 52-year-old Depp took the title that was held at the close of 2014 by comedy actor Adam Sandler.

As of end-2014, Depp was the No. 2 on the list of male lead stars who charge top dollar but do not always deliver at the ticket booths.

Forbes made the list based on the last three movies each actor in the roster starred in before June 2015 excluding animated films and those in limited release, notes The Waltonian.

Johnny Depp starred in “Transcendence” back in 2014. The film cost $100 million to produce but barely broke even when overseas figures were included.

The list would surely give Disney Pictures apprehension over the box-office chances of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” when it is released to theaters in July 2017.

However, it could be that Disney is quite confident of the reputation of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise already that even the infamous reputation of Johnny Depp in the box office could simply not pull it down just like that.

In good company

If there is any consolation to Johnny Depp, the Top 10 Forbes’ list of most overpaid actors in 2015 also includes Will Ferrell, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Liam Neeson, Will Smith, Channing Tatum, and Ben Affleck.

Ben Affleck may be in for some redemption that would take him out of the infamous list especially with the upcoming showing of “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” on March 25, 2016.

The inclusion of Johnny Depp on the list is not his first time. As for the list of overpaid female lead stars, the list includes Mila Kunis, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Emma Stone.

There are reports saying that film experts and critics are being skeptical about “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” being better than its predecessor unless producers do some excellent work in the post-production phase of the film.

However, it does appear that the producers are trying their best efforts to bring back the fun and adventure of the first two films of the series.

Post-production phase

The fifth installment to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie franchise has just completed filming and is reportedly on the first phase of its post-production.

It seems a bit early for its July 2017 release date but it was actually the delay in filming caused by Johnny Depp earlier in 2015 that Disney was prompted to push back its playdate from this year to 2017.

The bigger task for the post-production people is to make sure that “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” comes out better than its predecessor or as the producers wanted, be as good as any of the first two films.

The producers wanted to redirect the course of the fifth film after the last two movies of the franchise veered off course.

It was actually British actress Kaya Scodelario who said in a recent interview that “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will be similar to the first film, which is considered a classic.

She added that the creators wanted to have the “Pirates of the Caribbean” epic journey for the entire storyline to make sense by tying everything up to the beginning and lead to new storylines.

The “Maze Runner” actress says her character in the “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is Carina Smyth. She will be an astronomer and an academician and that she will be fighting for her right to study in the university because having women pursue such vocation is something not normal during the early days, notes the Inquisitr.

Her role will intertwine with the goal of Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, as Carina will also be looking for the Trident of Poseidon. She has a diary which shall offer them clues on how to find what they were looking for. But typical of Captain Jack, he will mess everything up and that’s where all the fun and misadventures begin.
