‘Penny Dreadful’ Season 3 Abrupt Ending Leaves Viewers in the Lurch; Showrunner Confirms Show Cancellation for Season 4!

However, critics believe that with the abruptness of the ending of “Penny Dreadful,” it seems clear that the show has been cut short and both Logan and Nevins are just trying to be cordial in public.

Loyal viewers of the TV series know how the show develops and concludes its storylines – slow but sure. So having an abrupt ending showing the death of Vanessa to end the storyline of Dracula in “Penny Dreadful” is really off the books, as far as the show is concerned.

In a recent behind-the-scenes video released shortly after the Season 3 finale of “Penny Dreadful,” British actress Eva Green said that she will be missing her Vanessa Ives character. Josh Harnett was also quoted in the video as saying that Vanessa and Ethan’s intertwined conclusion makes their love story quite tragic.

Some fans of “Penny Dreadful” believe that the death of Vanessa Ives could easily be undone because of the presence of Dr. Victor Frankenstein, played by Harry Treadaway, and his ability to defeat human mortality. But it was not meant to be as the death of Vanessa is meant to give the storyline of the main character a satisfying conclusion. But it was not the kind of satisfaction that fans and viewers of “Penny Dreadful” really want.

  1. Have to admit, the ending really seemed false and rushed and out of character. I don’t really buy what Logan is selling. I wish someone would pick up the story where it ended. Please?……..

  2. I really wanted to see a further storyline develop with the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde- even if we had just seen it once it would have been cool. I’d have cut a lot of that Ethan going home to deal with his father stuff to make room for that; they could have dealt with the Dracula storyline better. I think if they had re- prioritised, the series still could have ended in three seasons and wouldn’t have felt quite as rushed. Too bad, I really liked that show.

  3. Average ratings? What average. I believe it was below average for the network.

It thought it was beautiful. Great ending. People need to let it go. The story of the child was a message for the fans….

  4. Sure, as a fan I was ready for more, but in a way I do see by the way the show concluded, that all these characters have a future, there is continuity in their existence, but I guess I ll have to use my imagination to think what that would look like.
