‘Overlord’ Season 2: Release Date Revealed on Twitter

Overlord premiere date for its second season had just been leaked recently. According to the Twitter account of Machina Tokyo, an anime store, it posted an image of the upcoming Volume 12 of the novel. It teased of a new book with a photo and the jacket of the book released that it will premiere on January 2018. Madhouse will also return as its animation studio. However no official date has been confirmed yet.

The series is becoming increasingly popular which was adapted from a Japanese light novel from the original works of Kugane Maruyama and illustrations by So-Bin via Enterbrain. The franchise already had 11 volumes released since 2012 and is becoming more well-known at the moment especially to the avid anime fans because of its entertaining and unique plot and high definition effects on TV.

For those who are unfamiliar of the series, the story sets in the future year 2138 where everything revolves around virtual reality gaming. One curious day, a popular virtual game called Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (DMMORPG) that almost everyone plays suddenly shuts down not knowing the reason why. However, Momonga, the main character did not log out when the game shut down and eventually he realized he cannot use the normal playing function or even quit.

Momonga is then transformed into a skeleton that also made him become the most powerful wizard. He was called Ainz Ooal Gown. In the real world, he feels alone and empty but inside the game some weird things happen to him that he decided to take over it and become the ruler of everything within.

Non Player Characters (NPC) also starts to feel emotions and interact with Momonga inside the virtual world.  At the end of the last season, Ainz Ooal Gown together with his band of NPCs who are followers of the Great tomb of Nazarik had just defeated a rebellion led by the Loli vampire.

There was a spin-off anime Pure Pure Pleiades and the Overlord OVA episode for fans that missed it. Overlord: Fushisha no O (Overlord: The Undead King) was the first compilation movie that was released in Japan on February 2017.

The second compilation film, Overlord: The Dark Warrior was released on March 2017 that gave the fans the first clue that a season 2 for Overlord Series is on its way. The two compilation anime movies are also the titles of the first two volumes of Maruyama’s original Overlord light novel series.

Season 1 of the anime television series concluded with 13 episodes adapted by the Madhouse. It aired between July 7 and September 29 2015.

It has been more than two years since the first season and fans are excited to know more about the second season. However it is not clear yet if the storyline would be continuous from the former season and or it would be longer than 13 episodes. But there are speculations that it will have 24-25 episodes since there are a lot of materials and plotlines to explore since the time it ended last 2015.
