Organizers Looking Forward to Sylvester Stallone Joining This Year’s World Cabbage Hurling Competition

The organizers of the annual Holbeach Town and Country Fayre in King’s Filed, Ravens Gate at North Spalding in Lincolnshire in the UK is hoping to see Hollywood veteran action star Sylvester Stallone in time for the World Cabbage Hurling competition slated this week.

While Stallone or his representative has yet to confirm the participation of the actor in the event, many believe that he would show up in the event as he was recently seen advertising Warburton’s bread, which is one of the sponsors for the event.

John Ward, cabbage hurling steward, is hoping that Sly would accept the invitation and take part in the cabbage hurling competition as that would surely enliven the event further, notes the Spalding Guardian.

According to Andrew French, chairman of the organizing committee for this year’s event, the 2015 Holbeach Town and Country Fayre is bigger than ever with at least 120 tractors participating in the exhibit, three big craft tents, 50 trade stands, a new food court, a massive parade of steam, an array of classic cars, ring events, and the highlight of them all – the world-famous cabbage hurling contest.

French said that previously the country fayre’s main draw is the exhibits but now everyone’s looking forward to the cabbage hurling event. Having Stallone take part in it would surely draw more crowds to the competition and to the country fair in general.

Durable action star

Sylvester Stallone is one of the most durable Hollywood action stars around as he has been in the business for more than 40 years and from the looks of it, he continues to thrive.

In addition to being a very successful actor, Stallone has added being a successful writer and director to his Hollywood mantle.

But it was in acting where Sly Stallone got critically-acclaimed performances and obviously his real bread and butter.

At 69 years old, Stallone is well known for his Hollywood action roles, the most notable of which are his portrayal of the boxer Rocky Balboa in his “Rocky” movie series and soldier John Rambo from the “Rambo” film franchise.

He was the one who wrote every episode of the two eponymous franchises and directed some of their instalments as well.

Rocky statue

Stallone’s film “Rocky” was actually inducted into the National Film Registry and had its film probs placed in the Smithsonian Museum.

The actor’s use of the front entrance to the Philadelphia Museum of Art while training for his fights in the “Rocky” series led to the area being named as the Rocky Steps.

The city of Philadelphia has also put up a statue of his Rocky character permanently near the museum. Though he never was an amateur or professional boxer, it was officially announced on December 7, 2010 that Stallone was voted into boxing’s prestigious Hall of Fame.
