‘Once Upon a Time’ Season 5 Back Half Brings with it the Show’s Renewal for Season 6!

The long wait for the fans and viewers for the second half of Season 5 of the American fairy tale drama TV series “Once Upon a Time” appears worth it as days before its return to the small screen on March 6 on ABC following a 90-day hiatus, the show has already been renewed for Season 6.

It was actually series co-creator Adam Horowitz who proudly made the announcement of the show’s renewal on his Twitter account when he posted on March 3 that he is thrilled to announce that “Once Upon a Time” has been picked up for Season 6. Horowitz also thanked ABC and the show’s most extraordinary fans for the important milestone for the show on his tweet, details TV Line.

The early announcement of the show’s renewal comes barely two weeks after ABC shook up its upper management, replacing entertainment chief Paul Lee with Channing Dungey.

“Once Upon a Time” is averaging five million viewers per episode and a 1.6 demo rating, which was down by 25% from its Season 4 figures. However, counting the Live+7 DVR playback, the number grow to 7.3 million viewers and 2.6 demo rating, making it the sixth and fifth, in those categories respectively among ABC TV dramas.

Turning to her dark side again?

While Regina, also known as the Evil Queen, played by Lana Parilla, has turned from bad to good in “Once Upon a Time,” latest reports have it that when she comes back in episode 12 of the show on March 6 and they visit the Underworld, she will turn to her dark side again.

In fact, there is a possibility that she will be more determined than ever to kill Snow White, played by Ginnifer Goodwin.

However, the good news is that her being back to evil is only part of the flashbacks which Regina will face and so are her friends when they reach the Underworld.

Regina and the team of heroes from Storybrooke will quickly find out that the Underworld is a twisted version of their town and it is populated by people with unfinished business, most of it with the core group that showed up, notes TV Guide.

A tearful reunion

The reports also said that Regina will have a tearful reunion of sort with her mother Cora, played by Barbara Hershey, and she will be forced to make a tough decision between helping her friends and saving someone she loves and also herself.

Regina is currently the Mayor of Storybrooke. She and her whole gang including Emma, played by Jennifer Morrison, Mary Margaret, played by Ginnifer Goodwin, David, played by Josh Dallas, Robin Hood, played by Sean Maguire, and Rumplestiltskin, played by Robert Carlyle, will be travelling to the Underworld in an apparent rescue mission to save Hook, played by Colin O’Donoghue, after Emma was forced to kill him earlier during the winter finale.

Interestingly, while Hades, played by Greg Germann, is the lord of the Underworld and basically Season 5’s Big Bad in “Once Upon a Time,” Regina’s estranged mother Cora is actually the Mayor of the Underworld.

once upon a time

Based on recent reports, Regina and Cora will be in for a tearful reunion in the 12th episode of “Once Upon a Time” and the leaked pictures of the next episode actually showed the mother and daughter pair having a series of sweet moments together.

There shall also be a re-appearance of one character who first appeared in Season 1 and shall be making his return in the next episode. But he would be bringing some comedic relief.

As expected, Hook will also be making an appearance in the next episode but he will be someone who had just died.
