NCIS Season 13: Could Mike Franks Be Coming Back? Let’s See

Season 12 of “NCIS” ended on a very dramatic note, leaving fans wondering what they should expect from the next season of the show. Gibbs got shot, and it’s not clear what the producers have in store for the character, but not many people are expecting him to be killed off. However, it’s possible that season 13 might start with some interesting references to the earlier times of the show, and recently news have been going around that Muse Watson will be coming back.

Watson himself has confirmed the news, sharing a photo of his dressing room and saying that he is “back home” on the set of the show. However, as much as fans have been excited by the announcement, it also raises some interesting questions. In particular, the fact that Mike Franks – Watson’s character – should be dead at this point has been seen as strange in the context of this announcement.

He’s actually been dead for years at this point, but the show’s writers know what they’re doing and they’ve handled more complicated plot developments before. This shouldn’t be a problem for them as long as they’ve planned for it accordingly, and it’s possible that hints about the character’s survival have been right under our noses all this time and we didn’t know.

There have been speculations about other possibilities for his return, too – for example, he might not be technically alive, but rather we may see him in the form of flashbacks and dream sequences. While this may be slightly disappointing for some fans as it’s a plot device that may be seen as a bit overused by some, it’s at least going to be a nice throwback moment for those who enjoyed Watson’s character, and it can also shake up the story quite a bit if the flashbacks reveal interesting details.

Filming for the new season is already underway, but most of the interesting details are being kept secret. Watson hasn’t been able to say anything specific about his role on the show for its new season, and the cliffhanger about Gibbs means that many other actors need to keep their mouths tightly shut for the time being.

We’re not going to hear many official details about those parts of the plot anytime soon, but on the other hand, leaks should start coming out sooner or later. With so much interest on the show, especially with regards to these parts of its plot, many people have their eyes wide open for clues and as soon as something is announced that might look promising, it’s going to be all over the Web.

It should go without saying that many fans of the show – and critics as well – have been hopeful for the survival of Gibbs, but as we said above, it wouldn’t make too much sense for the producers to kill him off. The character contributes a lot to the plot as a whole, and it would be very disappointing to many fans to see him departing.

And the producers definitely realize that, as they have shown before that they are keeping a close eye on their fan community, and are always listening to what their fans have to say. They know if something is going to affect the show’s popularity too negatively, and obviously aren’t going to make such a move. On the other hand, considering that the show has been running for 12 seasons now, it might need something more dramatic to shake up the plot and keep everyone on their toes.

  1. Please do not take Gibbs off. I will stop watching when you do. I love all of the other characters in the show but I do not want Gibbs to leave.

    1. I’m with Peggy on this one. No Gibbs…I most likely won’t watch any more! Can not imagine anyone being able to take his place!!!!!

  2. Gibbs will survive but Glasberg has already stated that being betrayed by the kid is really going to mess with Gibbs’ head. Mike may serve as his ghost therapist for 1-? episodes. I have always loved Mike, so I’m glad he will visit Gibbs.
