After wrestling both physically and mentally with Mr. Robot, Elliot decided to go back home to be alone again. He was greeted by a loud knock on the door from an unknown visitor.
There was also a scene in the closing credits that showed the mysterious White Rose, played by BD Wong, meeting with one of Evil Corporation’s top men at a lavish party, where they discussed the burning of Rome.
According to Ismail, the post-credit scene was more of a product of brainstorming on how to end the season. They were thinking of ending the season on Elliot, but they finally decided to go with White Rose in order to set up another story arc for the next season that fans should watch out for.
The showrunner described it more as a classic strategy of creating a coda placed after the credits, which is something not typically done on TV series. He said that he was happy the way it came out during the Season 1 finale because it certainly left fans with a couple of things to look forward to in the Season 2 premiere next year.
However, he explained that the story of “Mr. Robot” has always been about Elliot and it will continue to be about Elliot in the upcoming season.
