‘Mr. Robot’ Season 2 to See Transformation of TV Series from Lighter to Really Dark!

The American thriller-drama TV series “Mr. Robot” on the USA Network is one of the very few TV shows whose second season has already been confirmed even before its Season 1 premiered on the small screen.

Created by Sam Ismail, the TV series premiered on the USA Network on June 24, 2015 with its first of 10 episodes. But since it already had an early premiere on May 27 on multiple online and video-on-demand services, the USA Network has ordered a new set of 10 episodes for Season 2 even before it officially aired Season 1.

“Mr. Robot” follows the story of Elliot Alderson, played by Rami Malek, who works as a security engineer in a New York cybersecurity company called Allsafe.

As a generally introvert person, Elliot has been coping with social anxiety disorder and clinical depression and his thought process is often characterized by paranoia and delusion. Instead of talking to people, Elliot connects to them by hacking into their cyber lives, which makes him act as a cyber-vigilante, or cyber stalker to many.

Because of his great skills in computer security, Elliot is eventually recruited by a mysterious anarchist known as Mr. Robot. He was eventually convinced to join Mr. Robot’s team of hacktivists known as fsociety.

Accordingly, one of the group’s key missions is to cancel all debts of people by taking down one of the largest corporations in the world called E Corporation, which happens to be Allsafe’s biggest client. And that is where the plot gets really interesting especially when Elliot starts branding E Corporation as Evil Corp.

Darker and tougher

Creator Sam Ismail, in a recent interview, said that the events of Season 1 of “Mr. Robot” were relatively lighter compared to what will happen in the upcoming second season, to premiere on the USA Network next year, notes the Christian Post.

He said that apart from being really dark, things will also be tougher for the main characters of the TV series including Elliot.

Rami Malek also confirmed the show creator’s pronouncement by saying in another interview that things will be tougher for his character in the next season because he will be doing something that he has never done in the past.

But Ismail refuses to divulge further details, leaving the rest of the cast of characters to simply say what they expect their respective characters will do in the upcoming Season 2.

According to Carly Chaikin, who takes on the role of Elliot’s sister Darlene, she wants to see her character interact more with her brother. She also adds that the connection between Elliot and Mr. Robot should also be explored deeper by the TV series.

For his part, Malek wants that Season 2 of “Mr. Robot” will have lesser flashback scenes of Shyla Nico, played by Frankie Shaw, who is his character’s drug dealer-girlfriend. He also wants to be able to eat and change clothes in the upcoming season, which his character was not able to do much during Season 1.

Mr. Robot in the flesh

There are reports saying that veteran actor Christian Slater will also be returning on Season 2 of the TV series to reprise his role as Mr. Robot.

Fans and viewers eventually learned in Season 1 that Mr. Robot is actually the estranged father of Elliot, whose alter ego is Edward Alderson.

According to Ismail, Season 1 of “Mr. Robot” has not even cracked the surface of Edward Alderson’s past.

It can be recalled that Elliot and fsociety pulled off their biggest hack during the Season 1 finale. The hack has apparently turned E Corporation and the world upside down, but Elliot was not satisfied with the outcome, details The Hollywood Reporter.
