Early this week, the Android 5.1 Lollipop has finally rolled out to the Motorola Moto G2 and five other Motorola Moto smartphones.
Google is obviously now under pressure to effect the roll out of Android 5.1 Lollipop to Android devices at the soonest possible time after the American multinational technology company announced during the Google I/O event on May 28 and 29 that its next mobile operating system, the Android M, will be arriving in the third quarter of this year.
In addition to the Motorola Moto G2, the five other Moto handsets that received the Android 5.1 Lollipop updates are the Motorola Moto G, the Moto X 1st and 2nd Generation, and the Moto E 2nd Generation that has 4G LTE capability.
In addition to Android 5.1 Lollipop, Google is also hastening the release of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware update to ensure that it has no more Lollipop on its plate within a couple of months before it unveils the Android M.
Firmware update coming or not
The question now of the owners of Motorola Moto G2 smartphones is whether they will still receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware update now that they already have the Android 5.1 Lollipop on their handsets.
It seems very unlikely at this point since its successor is just around the corner and may likely be launched in the latter part of this year.
If the third generation of the Motorola Moto G will come out ahead of the Google launching of the Android M mobile operating system, it is likely that it will come with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. However it the Motorola Moto G3 will come out after the launch of Android M, there is a good chance that it will come out with the latest mobile operating system already onboard.
However, these are just speculations at this time until after Motorola makes an official announcement or statement to confirm or deny this initial information.
The Motorola Moto G2 has been released in September 2014, some 10 months after the Motorola Moto G 1st generation came out in November 2013.
Basing on the same Motorola production timetable and release pattern, then it is likely that a third generation of the Motorola Moto G would come out in July at the earliest. But again, since Motorola has yet to make any official advice about one of its upcoming smartphone offerings, these are just mere speculations at this time.
Upgraded variant of the Motorola Moto G2
In March, Motorola has released an upgraded variant of its Moto G2 which featured a new capability of supporting 4G LTE connectivity, which greatly renewed consumer interests and enthusiasm on the handset.
As the new variant basically retained its key features and its affordable price, the upgraded Motorola Moto G2 certainly attracted more buyers.
