The 3rd generation of the Motorola Moto G, which was released in July this year, actually continues the brand’s winning formula that the American tech company first discovered with the original Moto G, released in the fall of 2013.
For a price point of less than $200, the original Motorola Moto G gave users a compelling experience because it was free from the bloatware that other smartphones of its era possess including the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and the HTC One Mini, details Tom’s Hardware.
However, the Moto G was not capable of supporting LTE, which was a major downside considering that its contemporary handsets have such feature. That is the reason why after six months from its release, Motorola decided to roll out a new variant of the Moto G that is capable of supporting LTE. The new feature also came with a $50 increase on its retail price.
When the Motorola Moto G completed its one-year market cycle, the 2nd Generation of the Moto G was released in the fall of last year. It came with improved cameras and the display screen was increased from 4.5 inches to 5 inches.
But the bigger screen size of the Motorola Moto G2 came with a trade-off as it led to a decrease in battery life since the battery size of the Moto G was not changed at all. Both devices also used the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor.
Another problem with the Motorola Moto G2 was that it was still using the Snapdragon 400 processor when its contemporary mid-range handsets were already moving up to the 64-bit Snapdragon 410 chipset, leaving it a little behind in terms of technology.
Taking learned lessons to good use
Having learned its lessons from the release of the Moto G and the Moto G2, the 3rd Generation of the Moto G turned it to good use by correcting all the flaws that the American tech company experienced with the first two models of the brand, details Gadgets 360.
Compared to its chunky predecessor, the Moto G3 is quite refined. While its specifications are not much of a leap forward, but the build quality is quite excellent and the number of features has also been enhanced.
The Motorola Moto G3 also comes in two storage and RAM options. It has a model that comes with a 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage and a variant that features a RAM of 2GB and a 16GB of internal storage. But as expected, the bigger version is more expensive.
The Motorola Moto G3 is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm, Snapdragon 410 chipset, which clocks at 1.4GHz. It is fast in both RAM versions. Web pages are loaded fast, and there is a minimal stutter. However, multi-tasking takes a hit, games, and applications are loaded much slower on the 1GB version, compared to the 2GB variant. Both the phones are easily able to handle the games on the Google Play Store.
The 3rd generation of the Moto G also comes with 2,470 mAH of battery and runs with stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. It also comes with a clean and simple UI to make Motorola’s features unique.
An exquisite budget smartphone
It cannot be simply described as a pure budget smartphone as it is more expensive than regular budget smartphones but the design of the Moto G3 is quite exquisite and its features and applications really worth its price.
It has been reported late in September that it will be among the first in the smartphone line to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update before the end of this year.
Motorola Moto G2, on the other hand, will follow suit and shall receive it in January next year before the sleeper success of 2013, which is the Moto G, will get the latest mobile operating system from Google in February 2016.
