Motherhood of Rachel Bilson May Cause the Cancellation of ‘Hart of Dixie’ Season 5

The American comedy-drama TV series “Hart of Dixie” may be doing well in the ratings game during its first four seasons or so one of its cast members says. But if reports are true that lead actress Rachel Bilson is planning to be a full-time mother to her new baby daughter, then it is likely that The CW network would cancel the fifth season of the show.

More than a month after the series finale of Season 4 of “Hart of Dixie” aired on March 27, it remains unclear whether the show will be renewed by the network and come back for a fifth season.

It is typical for networks to announce the renewal of a TV series months before its ongoing season ends but in the case of “Hart of Dixie,” no official statement or announcement has been made thus far, which only lend credence to the belief that Season 4 may have been the show’s last.

The real reason

In a recent interview, show regular and actress Jamie King disclosed that in the event that The CW network does not renew “Hart of Dixie” for Season 5, it is not because the show was not doing good in terms of ratings because it actually fares reasonably well.

She said that the likely reason that the show will be discontinued is because lead actress Rachel Bilson has already signified her intention even during the fourth season of the show that she wants to be a full-time mother and spend more time with her baby daughter, details Christian Today.

Jamie added that it has been a tricky situation for “Hart of Dixie” because the issue is not about the ratings but the timing. She revealed that Rachel got pregnant and wanted to take a maternity leave. Nobody can fault her for that because every woman is entitled to do that, King explained.

She further noted that everything that is happening on the cast has an impact on the way things are decided upon for “Hart of Dixie.” And it even gets more interesting because the show has one of the most devoted fans on television, she cited.

Rachel Bilson has apparently left Los Angeles with long-time boyfriend Hayden Christensen and their baby daughter Briar Rose to ensure that their child is off the limelight and grows like normally.

Another possibility

Should The CW network decides to make a go for Season 5 for the “Hart of Dixie,” it could possibly mean that Rachel Bilson’s character Zoe Hart might not be in Bluebell at all for next season so the rest of the cast would have to do without her.
