Most HTC Handsets to Bypass Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Update and Go Straight with Android 5.1 Lollipop

The HTC One M9 has just made it to the retail markets beginning April 10 and came out of the box already with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on it.

Fans of the latest flagship smartphone from the Taiwanese tech company were expecting that the device would already have the Android 5.1 Lollipop on it, but the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop was still very much welcome instead of the problematic Android 5.0 Lollipop.

But the operating system of the HTC One M9 shall have nonetheless a free update to the Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware from Android 5.0.2 Lollipop that it came out with from the box.

Different update route

Apparently, that shall not be the same update route to be taken on by the HTC One M8 and most other handsets of the Taiwanese tech company. HTC smartphones have just taken on the Android 5.0 Lollipop update early this month.

However, despite the availability of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, most of the HTC smartphones shall bypass it and proceed straight to the Android 5.1 Lollipop, which would become available over-the-air (OTA) very soon, reports Tech Times.

The HTC One M8 predecessor, the HTC One M7, shall also update straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop from Android 5.0 Lollipop. There have been previous reports that the company will no longer be updating the mobile operating system of the HTC One M7 so that users can already decide on retiring it and replace their handsets with the newer HTC One M8 and the HTC One M9.

But it seems like the Taiwanese tech company is giving users of the HTC One M7 a reprieve, at least for now.

Apparently, the decision of the HTC was in response to the violent reaction of many of the HTC One M7 users because without the Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware update, their handsets will continue to be riddled with bugs and issues that have been associated with the problematic Android 5.0 Lollipop.

No Android 5.0.2 on other HTC devices

There already has been confirming information that other HTC devices will no longer receive the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update and shall instead proceed straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop from Android 5.0 Lollipop.

In addition to the HTC One M8 and the HTC One M7, the other devices from the Taiwanese tech company that shall have the same mobile operating system update pattern include the HTC Desire Eye and the HTC Butterfly 2.

Early this month, the Google Play Editions of the HTC One M7 and the HTC One M8 both received the Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware update from Android 5.0 Lollipop.

So the only device on the HTC smartphone roster that got a taste of the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update is the HTC One M9 and nothing more.

It is not clear however if most users of HTC One M9 will prefer to tinker around with the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop a few days or weeks first before taking on the Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware update.
