Michael Schumacher’s Son Gets First Victory of His Motor Racing Career

If he was well and up and about to see how his 16-year-old son Mick Schumacher earned his first victory in the German Formula Four racing competition held in Oschersleben on April 26, former seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher would have been real proud.

He would have probably said that his racing car legacy is already safe since Mick is well on course to keeping the family name’s winning tradition in the sports of car racing.

Mick was competing during the past weekend as part of the Dutch-based Van Amersfoort Racing team. He lined up second on the grid for the last three races at Oschersleben. He made a quick getaway from the pack, never looked back and finished first, cites Yahoo! Sports.

Leading rookie

The victory further increased the gap between Mick Schumacher and his closest competition in the rookie standings where he is currently in first place. But he is fifth overall in the championship picture.

The young Schumacher finished the 30-minute Formula Four race just behind the safety car. His teammate Joey Mawson from Australia came in at second while fellow rookie Thomas Preining checked in at third place.

On April 25, Mick also made his single-seater debut with media from all over the world in attendance as they watch the son of Michael Schumacher do his impressive performance on the race track.

He finished ninth during that race after starting 19th. Mick was also awarded with a trophy and podium appearance as the highest-placed rookie during the event.

Pretty satisfied

Mick later on said that he was pretty satisfied how the weekend races went. He disclosed that the team had three safety car phases as well as three pretty good restarts so overall he was happy with the results of the race.

Considering that it was his official debut at Formula Four racing, it was an impressive performance for a rookie and an upstart indeed.

Mick finished 12th in the second race on April 26 with the grid reversed for the finale so that he started second.

The young Schumacher, who happens to be the 2014 world junior karting runner-up was also lucky not to be hit from behind right at the start by British teammate Harrison Newey, son of multiple title-winning Formula One designer Adrian Newey.

Adrian Newey was admired for his colorful career as a racer and his remarkable brilliance in designing racing cars. His son Harrison was penalized with a drive-penalty for jumping the start.

The German Fomula Four championship is one of the nine series around the world run to the same regulations to enable young racing drivers to learn their craft in similar cars.
Two weeks ago, Sabine Kehm, the manager of both Michael and Mick Schumacher, came out and said that people should not set too much high expectations on Mick since he is basically just learning the ropes.

Comparing him immediately to his father would give him the undue and unnecessary pressure since the kid has still a lot of things to learn with racing, cites Kehm.
