‘Mafia III’ to Feature a New Mission Featuring Lincoln Clay Attempting to Infiltrate and Kill the Mob’s Money Man!

Game developer Hangar 13 and game publisher 2K Games have confirmed that the third-person shooter video game “Mafia III” will be hitting the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC on October 7.

“Mafia III” actually marks the comeback of the franchise after six years in dormancy. Apart from an altogether different setting from the first two games in the video game series, the upcoming game shall feature a brand new character named Lincoln Clay who has been betrayed by the Italian mob.

The gameplay is about Clay’s attempt to destroy the entire mob, after the betrayal.

During the recently concluded Gamescom 2016 held in Cologne, Germany, 2K Games released a new mission featuring Lincoln Clay attempting to infiltrate and kill Tony Derasio, the money man of the Italian mob led by Sal Marcano, details WCCF Tech.

Based on the live gameplay of those who were fortunate enough to try the game, the players were one in saying that it gave them a great feeling especially when they see the hits and its effects on enemies.

Unlike in melee or ranged combat games where the hits don’t really seem to carry significance or an appropriate amount of weight, “Mafia III” gives players the satisfaction of putting away bad guys and the hits do make a good statement.

The two mentors of Lincoln Clay

In the storyline of “Mafia III,” Lincoln Clay also has two mentors, who were already revealed in a couple of video clips about the game released by 2K Games recently.

The first one is Father James Ballard, who is both Lincoln’s spiritual adviser and adoptive father. The second one is John Donovan, his CIA handler and trusted source while he was still serving during the Vietnam War.

2K Games has confirmed that the two men will provide guidance and mentorship to Lincoln Clay as he seeks revenge on the Italian mafia, details VG 24/7.

There is also a third video showing Thomas Burke who is the head of the Irish Mob, who might be motivated to team up with Clay in his attempt to destroy the Italian mafia.

The bridge between ‘Mafia II’ and ‘Mafia III’

The only character who was present in “Mafia II” and also in “Mafia III” is Vito Scaletta and he would serve as the bridge or connection between the two video games.

After what happened at the end of “Mafia II,” Vito Scaletta is in New Bordeaux now and pretty much a made man. New Bordeaux is actually the equivalent of New Orleans in the real-life setting in the late 60s.

Like Lincoln, there is also a falling out between Scaletta and Sal Marcano, thus the former would be instrumental in Lincoln’s plan to get to Marcano.

The three underbosses in the game which Lincoln would recruit for his cause are Vito Scaletta, Cassandra, and Thomas Burke. He shall form an unholy alliance with each of them and Lincoln shall also promise each of them that they would be ruling the city once Marcano is gone.

The problem arise with the fact that Lincoln pretty much makes the same promise to all three of the underbosses and each of them will eventually try to get as much of the pie as possible from Lincoln.

Matthias Worch, Design Director of Hangar 13, says that they wanted to make sure that they would really be using the open world during the development of the “Mafia III” because it is one area where they knew that they could have improved from “Mafia II.”

He added that the way the story unfolds with Lincoln Clay gradually dismantling Sal Marcano’s stranglehold on New Bordeaux is actually integrated into the open world so there will be plenty of things that gamers would find in the open world but everything is related to the story.

Unlike most open world games of today that use random or dynamic events to make the world feel livelier, “Mafia III” has a very handcrafted feeling, says Worch.

He explained that it is very important for them in the development team and it is what the “Mafia” franchise has always been known in the gaming community – a really good story told really well and cinematically.
