Speaking of comparison, the “GTA” franchise is not up for the contrast game with “Mafia,” gaming company Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says. He adds that “Mafia 3” is a completely different experience and that the game stands alone. The CEO adds Take-Two does not use any other game in the same sentence as “Grand Theft Auto” as the latter is the industry’s standard-bearer, cites Gamespot.
This statement proves is supported by facts as the latest game from the franchise, “GTA V” has reportedly shipped more than 54 million copies to date. Zelnick also confirms that the company’s two labels, Rockstar Games, and 2K games, do not share the same technology. Rockstar is behind games such as “GTA,” “Max Payne,” and “L.A. Noire” while 2K boasts of “Mafia,” “NBA 2K,” and “Civilization” under its roster.
The first entry to the series, “Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven” was released for the PC in 2002 and was subsequently transported to other gaming consoles two years after. “Mafia” is set in the 1930s and centers on Italian characters and their rags-to-riches storylines.
Its sequel, “Mafia 2” was released in 2010 for the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, and the PC. “Mafia 2” is set between the 1940s and 1950s but did not serve as a direct sequel to the first game and features new characters and storylines. “Mafia 3” is the debut title of “Hangar 13” and is expected to be released for gaming consoles PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC by April next year.
