Former child actor sensation Macaulay Culkin is slowly being lured back to acting as of late with several acting assignments on TV and perhaps on film.
There were also reports saying that his former fiancée Mila Kunis has been discussing with him the possibility for Macaulay to return to full-time acting. In fact, the clandestine official meetings between the two even sparked rumors that Mila was cheating on her husband Ashton Kutcher.
In an interview early this month, the 35-year-old actor said that he is essentially retired from acting. He also admits to keeping a low profile for the past decade and counting and he was doing it on purpose.
He said that he is a man in his mid-30s so he does not prefer to be in the limelight anymore as much as he does when he was only 10 years old when he became a Hollywood child actor sensation, reports the New York Daily News.
Macaulay also said that he goes where the wind takes him a little bit. He states that he spends most of his days writing, painting, and doing whatever he wants in New York City which he considers his home.
The actor has dropped off the radar in recent years, preferring to shy away from the limelight. He also said that he prefers to go for walks in the early hours of the morning to avoid being recognized by the public, cites The Independent of UK.
Skyrocketed to fame
Culkin shot to fame almost 26 years ago after his starring role as Kevin McCallister in 1990’s “Home Alone” and the sequel coming out some two years later.
He retired from acting at the young age of 14. In 2000, he released an autobiographical novel titled “Junior” and later made the headlines after being captured in a photo looking incredibly thin and sickly.
The photos eventually led to rumors of Culkin getting into drug addiction and multiple death hoaxes on the internet.
In recent years, he has made a few public appearances which also included touring with his band known as The Pizza Underground, which parodies the songs of The Velvet Underground. He also made a cameo appearance recently on “The Jim Gaffigan Show.”
Late last year, he starred in the first episode of Moldy Peaches guitarist Jack Dishel’s web series titled “Dryvers” where he plays the grown-up Kevin McCallister, suffering from PTSD as derived from him being left alone on Christmas a couple of times during his childhood.
Culkin reprised his role as Kevin, who is already an Uber driver. In a 311-second video clip of episode 1 of “Dryvrs,” he portrayed McCallister as a scarily messed up man picking up an Uber passenger.
From a young boy left alone at home in Christmas and single-handedly fending off burglars, McCallister’s grown-up life appears to have taken a turn for the worse. He is already married and driving an Uber. It seems however that he is a bit on the deranged side.
After picking up a passenger, who was played by Jack Dishel himself, McCallister recounted his horrific experience after being left alone as a child in their house and the traumatic effects it has had on his life.
Joining a subversive remake
Disney once made an animated remake of “Aladdin,” a classic Arabian Night tale featuring a petty thief finding a magic lamp with a genie on it that granted him three wishes.
The animated movie was so successful that it resulted to two straight-to-home video sequels.
As far as Hollywood remembers, that was the last rendition of the story on the big screen. It seems that there will be another one this year and it is going to be a subversive remake of the classic tale.
Titled “Adam Green’s Aladdin,” the movie is written and directed by New York musician Adam Green and as the title implies, will also be playing the titular role.
Though it is not an animated film like the last one from Disney, “Adam Green’s Aladdin” will be a hyper-sensory and shall feature physical paper mache sets that look as though they were lifted straight from a cartoon.
