“Independence Day 2”, the sequel to one of the more successful alien-themed films, is approaching fast, and the excitement among fans is growing by the day. It’s pretty clear that a lot of people would be interested in seeing the story continue, and the original film had a pretty good potential for a sequel too, so it’s understandable why the new film is enjoying so much attention.
And at the same time, its producers have been very active in keeping their fans supplied with lots of relevant, fresh information about what they can expect to see in the new film. For example, it’s recently been confirmed that Jeff Goldblum will be joining the cast of the film, reprising his original role from the first one.
On the other hand, we’ll have Liam Hemsworth playing the lead role in the new production, something that was just recently confirmed, much to the pleasure of many fans. The film is currently being directed by Roland Emmerich and it’s expected to come out on the market on June 24, 2016. There’s still plenty of time to go in its production, and we’ll probably see more news about its cast and other details, although hopefully nothing of what’s been announced so far is going to change.
The specific role given to Usher will be of Smith’s son, and it’s been strongly implied that the new film will continue the story immediately where the original 1996 one ended. The first film was highly successful, managing to get over $800 million in profits after it came out, with a release cleverly targeted to coincide with the event in its title.
Emmerich himself was the one who confirmed that Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum would be joining the cast of the new production, with an Instagram post of the two actors accompanied by a short description in which he officially welcomed them to the cast of the production.
Who else might join “Independence Day 2”? As we said above, there’s still plenty of time to go in the production of the new film, and the fact that Liam Hemsworth’s participation has just now been announced is a good indication that the casting is still up for discussion to a large extent.
We could therefore see more interesting announcements over the next few months, although now that the main role has been filled, there are admittedly not that many curious revelations that the producers could make. We never know what they might have planned for the epic film though, as it’s certainly a production with a lot of potential, so it should be worth keeping an eye out for news.
