While a leather cover for a phone is obviously not going to be cheaply made, LG are definitely going the extra mile with their accessories for the G4, at least the luxurious ones – according to recent reports, a leather cover for the phone takes 12 weeks to produce, and there is a lot of manual work involved in the process too. This really pushes the luxurious aspect of this phone to the next level, as not many companies on the market are going to such lengths to provide a premium experience to their customers.
The G4 will come with several cover options, including brown, black, blue, red, cream or yellow, and LG have decided to go into some detail about the process involved in manufacturing one of those covers. According to them, the leather used in the creation of the G4’s cover has pores with a 0.001 micrometer width, and it’s specifically picked and designed for its comfortable feeling in the hand, even after the device has been used for a long time.
Normally, a leather cover is produced in four days with the standard manufacturing processes used by most companies. However, for the LG G4, that process is ten times as long, as a single cover takes 12 weeks to make. There are hand-made stitches that prevent the cover from unraveling, and the leather is of course coated and treated, making it resistant to external factors such as moisture and heat.
All in all, the cover is supposed to demonstrate elegance and be comfortable to use, according to Jun-Ho Cho, president of the company’s business division. Of course, it should go without saying that this elegance will most likely not come at a low price, as the finely crafted cover is expected to cost a lot more than the average leather phone case on the market.
The phone itself is expected to come at a price of $825, but it’s not yet clear if that actually includes the leather cover or not, and it’s entirely possible that customers might have to pay more for the actual leather cover itself. It’s also not known what the situation will be with the G4 Note, the high-end version of the phone, which will also come with an all-metal body.
So far though, LG have definitely managed to attract a lot of attention to the G4, and they definitely deserve it – it’s a phone that might not be suitable for every customer on the market, but it should definitely manage to stand out in its own respective niche. And that’s the niche of high-end smartphones aimed at people who truly know what they’re looking for.
