“Kingdom Hearts 3” is one of the most anticipated titles right now, and while we have no official information about its scheduled release date, it looks like this is about to change soon at this year’s E3. Current reports indicate that the game’s developers are planning to make the big announcement at the convention, and they have apparently been working quite hard to make it happen, as there is still some work left to do behind the scenes.
The biggest challenge so far has been the technology transition, as the game was moved from the Luminous engine to Unreal Engine 4, something which delayed its development a bit and has reportedly caused various problems for the studio internally. At the same time, it was a positive move overall as it allowed them to develop the game exactly how they wanted, with all the creative freedom they were lacking before.
The studio reported that the switch to Unreal Engine 4 has significantly impacted their workflow, and has made the whole process easier and more straightforward for everyone involved, so they have been able to get the game done much more easily than they were originally hoping, from what we can tell.
Other than the game’s release date, we’re also curious to find out what the developers are planning for its characters. This has traditionally been an important feature of the franchise, and it has been the main point of speculation for most of its fans right now, as everyone is curious to find what characters will be featured in the new installment.
Of course, Square Enix are going to keep quiet about the character list until the very last moment, as they have always done with this franchise. They would be smart to do so too, as the list of characters is something players love to discuss and speculate about, and it generates a lot of hype about the game in general.
One of the main questions in this regard is whether the game is going to include characters from Marvel and “Star Wars”, now that Disney has access to those intellectual properties as well. We can’t say for sure right now, but there doesn’t seem to be any indication that we’re going to see character from either universe for this installment.
Weapons and accessories are a different story though, and it’s very likely that we might see something from “Star Wars” included in the game, such as the iconic lightsaber as well as other props traditionally associated with the films.
