Jennifer Aniston is a well-known face in the world of showbiz. She has played the iconic role of Rachel in the popular sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S, which saw her catapulted into instant stardom and fame. With numerous films and awards and an Emmy to her name, one would expect that the jitters of the first day would be lost on her. However, this is not the case with Jennifer Anniston.
The actress was a case of nerves when she was backstage before the screening of her upcoming film, Cake, in the Toronto International Film Festival last September.
Cake depicts Aniston in a never before seen role. She plays the role of a pill popping middle-aged woman, with scars and flaws on her body. The film did not fare well in the box office. It even failed to make it to the Top 10 of any charts, but it gave Jennifer Aniston a scope to shine through, and she did. She showed her real potential as an actress and showed the world that she isn’t just cut out for glamorous roles.
Cake is being considered an underdog for this year’s Oscar. Most critics are not very happy with the result, but every year there are numerous hullaballoo about films that make the cut and films that don’t.
Jennifer Aniston is very happy with the way her role has been appreciated. In December, she picked up Screen Actors Guild and Critics’ Choice nomination for Best Actress at the Golden Globe. Following the Globe nomination she is now a major contender for the Oscar.
When asked how she feels about the way critics have responded to her role in Cake, she said that she is happy that she could lift off the cloak of Rachel. Ever since her role in the popular sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S, she hasn’t quite been able to come out of the character in people’s minds.
She finds it amusing that after working on so many films since the mid-1990s, critics had to discover her finally when she played a dark and morbid character. She says that it’s just how it is because when a particular series like F.R.I.E.N.D.S that has been running for over 10 years and is showing on some network in every part of the world, viewers tend to get stuck with the Jennifer Aniston they see in it.
Tabloids have always been abuzz with Jennifer Aniston’s personal life. She was married to Brad Pitt, who later went on to become Angelina Jolie’s partner and has subsequently married her and has children together. Aniston herself has been engaged to Justin Theroux. They are yet to tie the knot together.
