James Bond Role Tough to Fill Up Because of the Cracking Job Made by Daniel Craig, Says Michael Fassbender, And More

After months of going back and forth and reports of several actors being considered for the role of James Bond, it seems that the selection is still ongoing at this time and that producer Barbara Broccoli has yet to make her choice for the next actor to take on the role of the suave Agent 007.

Over the course of the selection, a lot of contenders have been thrown into the mix including Tom Hiddleston, who incidentally strikes some resemblance with Daniel Craig, Theo James, Aidan Turner, Idris Elba, Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill, and a few more.

But Barbara Broccoli seems to be having a difficult time with the selection process because of the high standards set forth by Daniel Craig when he decided to leave the role after the release of the last Bond film “Spectre” in November last year.

Michael Fassbender, who was last seen in the movie “X-Men: Apocalypse” has openly stated that he has already ruled himself out of the race because although he is only 39 years old, he already looks 50.

He said that not that age matters but he believes that the 48-year-old actor Daniel Craig has done a cracking job as James Bond that it made it tough for the producers to find a replacement for him at the same age group.

Fassbender said that he excels in wearing Bond’s tuxedo and nothing else but he laud’s Craig’s performance as the super sleuth on Her Majesty’s Secret Service that he does not see anyone coming close. He maintains though that he loves all “James Bond” movies, notes Chatt Sports Net.

Recommending Jack

But Fassbender recommended a candidate for James Bond which he thinks can somehow measure up and it’s Derbyshire actor Jack O’Connell.

Fassbender says that Jack O’Connell could take the famous and iconic character back to his roots because it would be fun to have a James Bond who would be someone in his early 20s.

O’Connell got his first big break in 2005 when he landed the role of Connor Yates in an episode of the BBC television series “Doctor.” The 26-year-old actor has appeared on numerous shows like “The Bill,” “The Runway,” and popular drama series “Skins.”

He also appeared in the critically-acclaimed film “Unbroken” as athlete Louis Zamperini and the BAFTA award he got for the role was handed to him by no less than the director of the film, Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie.

O’Connell also starred alongside George Clooney and Julia Roberts in the film “Money Monster,” directed by actress-turned-director Jodie Foster.

If and when Jack O’Connell is chosen as the next James Bond, he would be following in the footsteps of Timothy Dalton who was born in Wales. Dalton portrayed Agent 007 in “The Living Daylights” shown in 1987 and “License to Kill” in 1989.

Celebrating what James Bond is all about

Daniel Craig appeared on the “Today” show on November 10 and he talked to Matt Lauer about how the movie “Spectre” celebrated what James Bond is all about, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

They also talked about Christoph Waltz as the Bond villain and about how each film continues to push the envelope. Craig also confirmed he wrecked three or four Aston Martins that were made especially for the film.

Toward the end of the interview, Lauer brought up Craig’s comments that suggested he would rather slash his wrists than make another Bond film. He asked Craig to put the quote into context.

Craig responded by saying that director Sam Mendes is much more eloquent than him and added, “If you’re 200 yards from the end of the marathon and someone comes up to you and asks, ‘Are you going to run another marathon?’ there’s two words you use.” The actor and Lauer joked that those words were not appropriate for a morning show.
