Is the Ending of Mission Impossible 5 Causing a Delay in the Film’s Release

The next installment in the “Mission Impossible” series was supposed to come out at Christmas time last year, but that didn’t happen, and the release was postponed by a few months, currently scheduled for July. While the official reason for the delay was never revealed, we’ve recently seen some hints about what could have caused the setback in the film’s production. If the rumors are true, the problem was related to the way the film ended.

Apparently, producers were all but satisfied with the ending of the film, claiming that it’s not worthy of the overall quality of the production before that. Therefore, they’ve decided to give some time to the writers so they can revise the script and try to come up with a more creative ending to the film, which would make sense in the context of the six-month delay that was introduced to the film’s release.

After all, changing the ending wouldn’t be a small task by any means, as they would not only have to rewrite the script, but also shoot and post-process the actual scenes, which would surely take some time. If it means having a proper ending to the film though, they should by all means take their time with this release.

Because in the end, they only get one shot at making it perfect – after the film has been officially released, there’s no turning back. If fans end up dissatisfied with its ending, this reputation will follow the film forever, and could potentially ruin the franchise’s future and the potential for any additional sequels.

It’s not a new thing for Paramount to delay a production due to an imperfect ending by any means, as they previously did something similar with “World War Z”, which actually got a whole new act written after its production had already concluded.

“Edge of Tomorrow” faced similar issues, and the situation was actually arguably worse there, as the film saw numerous revisions to its script from the very beginning, with the producers constantly making various changes to the setup in order to get a more perfect overall composition. Whether the final result was worth all those setbacks is arguable, but hopefully “Mission Impossible 5” will manage to live up to fans’ expectations properly.

Mission Impossible 5

It’s certainly understandable why Paramount would want “Mission Impossible 5” to be as close as possible to perfection anyway, as the previous film in the series enjoyed a very strong reception, and the studio has a lot to live up to with this release. Hopefully, they realize that and will make sure that “Mission Impossible 5” is finely polished in every single aspect, including the ending.
