Is Dishonored 2 About to Be Announced at VGA

The original “Dishonored” was an instant hit when it came out, and fans have been craving for a sequel – but the people at Arkane Studios have been very quiet, and no details about the game have been made public yet. In fact, some have been wondering whether a sequel is planned in the first place, but given the popularity of the original, it would make no sense for Bethesda to avoid signing for a second game.

The latest speculations point at the next Video Game Awards as a potential stage for the announcement of “Dishonored 2”, although this remains a rumor and hasn’t been confirmed by anyone involved with the project at this point. And usually, Bethesda prefer to make their major announcements at E3, so if they announce anything at VGA, most fans are expecting that it will be a subtle hint rather than a full-blown confirmation for the sequel.

There have been indications that the game is being worked on behind the scenes, such as several job postings for the developer, Arkane Studios. While the postings didn’t specify what game the potential candidates would be working on, they did say it’s about a yet to be revealed AAA title. Which could really only mean two things – either Bethesda have hired Arkane to develop an entirely new IP with a major budget, or they have contracted a sequel for “Dishonored”. For most fans, the answer has been obvious.

Alleged leaks from the studio have also been fueling the discussions, with information pointing towards a potential new setting for the title, as well as a 2016 release date. Additionally, the game’s full name might be “Dishonored 2: Darkness of Tyvia”, if the rumors turn out to be true. Of course, this could turn out to be just a working title, even if Bethesda decide to stick with the Tyvia theme.

Dishonored 2

“Dishonored 2” could do a lot to improve the formula of the original, even though it was praised for its originality and solid gameplay. The game was received mostly well, though it still had its fair share of criticism. The most problematic aspect that fans were pointing out was the fact that the game offered lots of opportunities for serious stealth gameplay, but at the same time encouraged a brutal style of killing everyone in the player’s way. As a result, many felt that there was only one “true” way to enjoy the game, leaving many options with no practical application. If “Dishonored 2” fixes these problems, creates a more diverse gameplay, and retains the same atmosphere and unique feeling of the world presented in the original, it’s likely that this will be the next big thing in stealth games, despite the genre becoming somewhat overdone in the last few years.
