Contrary to reports or rumors that “Iron Man 4” is now in production, it seems unlikely that Marvel Studios will be filming a movie now or in the very near future for a 2020 release date.
The production company has already calendared movies from next year until 2020. All movies until 2019 are already identified and only the three movies in 2020 remain with no titles.
Last month, Marvel Studios released the calendar of its upcoming films beginning next year with “Captain America: Civil War” in May and “Doctor Strange” in November.
The list contains 14 films in all. After the two movies in 2016, there will be three movies each in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. However, all the three films set for 2020 release were left anonymous, indicating them simply as first, second, and third mystery Marvel movie.
That surely had fans speculating on which movie would be the first, second, or third mystery Marvel movie in 2020.
The first mystery Marvel movie will come out in May 2020, followed by the second mystery movie to come out in July 2020, before the third one hits cinemas in November 2020.
Marvel Studios titled its announcement as Phase 3 Update, which means that the three 2020 films are all Phase 3 movies and not the first three movie installments of Phase 4.
That being said, the earliest that an “Iron Man 4” movie could start production is late 2018 or early 2019 and there is no way that Marvel would do filming earlier than that.
The comic book triggered the speculations
Apparently, the upcoming release of the new comic book series “The Invincible Iron Man” by Brian Michael Bendis, in cooperation with Alex Maleev, had fans speculating that the comic book could serve as the springboard for the possible plotline for “Iron Man 4.”
The most interesting plot on the upcoming Iron Man comic book series is the possibility of Tony Stark falling for the ex-girlfriend of Peter Parker, Mary Jane (MJ) Watson.
According to Bendis, Tony Stark and MJ Watson know each other because she used to live in Avengers Tower, notes the Christian Post.
However, the writer refuses to divulge any other details because he said that the kind of relationship that will ensue between Tony and MJ is part of the big reason why fans, people, and readers should buy the comic book.
Many are speculating that the relationship between Tony and MJ could be the romantic kind, which would be a good plotline too if it is incorporated in “Iron Man 4.”
While there is nothing concrete yet as far as the plot or screenplay of “Iron Man 4” is concerned, the scriptwriters could sure use the plot to make the movie enjoy an interesting sidelight, although they may have to think how Pepper Potts, played in the series by actress Gwyneth Paltrow, will come out in the event that Tony falls for MJ.
“The Invincible Iron Man” comic book series will be released next month while another comic book called “International Iron Man” would be released next year.
More than $100 million payday
Another thing that is certain at this point as far as “Iron Man 4” is concerned is that the movie will give actor Robert Downey Jr. a windfall when it is finally shown around the Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will be from 2019 onwards.
There have been previous reports that it is possible that RDJ might get more than $100 million for his portrayal of Tony Stark and Iron Man come “Iron Man 4.” And that assumption actually stands on a good leg because the world’s highest paid actor for three years running was actually paid $80 million for “Avengers: Age of Ultron” shown in May this year.
He is expected to get $40 million for “Captain America: Civil War” when it hits cinemas next year. And these two movies are not even RDJ’s solo movies like the “Iron Man” movie series. Thus it follows, that the actor would likely get no less than $100 million when the time has finally arrived and he already has to do “Iron Man 4,” notes the Parent Herald.
Man… Robert Downey jr. is going to be so rich when Iron Man 4 comes. I know he will reprise his role as Iron Man/Tony Stark in Iron Man 4. I seriously doubt that Tony Stark and MJ Watson are going to be a couple in Iron Man 4. That would be so stupid for a man in his 50s and for a woman in her early 20s to be in-love with each other. There is absolutely no way that’s ever going to happen in Iron Man 4.
