The waiting game for the fourth installment of the “Iron Man” franchise has started way back last year and it looks like it’s going to be for a while before superhero Iron Man flies again. Venture Capital Post stated that at the earliest, “Iron Man 4” could come out by 2019.
In October last year, Marvel Studios has unveiled a nine-movie plate offering from 2015 to 2019 but “Iron Man 4” was not one of them.
With the official entry of Spider-Man into the Marvel cinematic universe following the agreement reached between Sony and Marvel last month, it looks like Spider-Man will have more films from this year to 2019 than Iron Man.
Thus, an “Iron Man 4” movie from Marvel could likely come after the studio has released all the films in its plate, notwithstanding the addition of a couple more movies featuring Spider-Man.
The new Iron Man
Every time Robert Downey Jr., the actor who played Tony Stark in all “Iron Man” movies, is asked about the possibility of having a fourth sequel to “Iron Man,” he has been evading the issue by saying that there is a likely possibility that there would be.
Apparently, Downey has his reasons for answering that way as rumors on “Iron Man 4” as of mid-December 2014 indicate that Marvel is looking for a younger actor who shall have an important role in assuming the legacy of Tony Stark, which is no other than Iron Man himself.
Speculations also have it that 13-year-old actor Ty Simpkins, who played Harley Skeener in “Iron Man 3,” will be the next cast member who shall don the “Iron Man” suit.
Previous reports cited that the young actor shall take the place of Tony Stark in “Iron Man 4” which was rather absurd as it will disturb the plotline. The time element of the movie would simply not make sense at all.
Contrary to previous notions, it is possible that Harley Skeener would don the suit of Iron Man after Tony Stark. Now, that is a good “Iron Man 4” plot to build on. Harley will then just continue Stark’s legacy as Iron Man.
Actually, even Ty Simpkins, during an interview in December, sort of explained such scenario when he said that should things really worked out, he would not be playing the exact same role of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark but someone who is close to the role.
Next best bet
Given his role in “Iron Man 3,” Harley Skeener would really be the next best bet for the suit after Tony Stark.
Regardless of his size, Harley can fit the suit anyway and can operate all the techno-trimmings and powers of Iron Man from the inside. But since the film would come out 2019 at the earliest, Harley Skeener may already be an 18-year-old or 19-year-old young adult by then.
Marvel Studios would be lying if it said that it has not been thinking of doing a fourth Iron Man movie since the smashing success of “Iron Man 3.” Though no official word has came out from the production company.
