‘Iron Man 4’ is Going to Happen, Confirms ‘Iron Man 3’ Director

“Iron Man 3” Director Shane Black believes that “Iron Man 4” is going to happen and it is likely that Robert Downey Jr. would reprise his role as Tony Stark and the man in the iron suit.

In a recent interview, Black was quoted as saying that Robert Downey Jr. would be back for another “Iron Man” movie and that he was quite sure of it.

The confirmation from the “Iron Man 3” director comes amid reports that a younger actor, who was reported to be Ty Simpkins, will replace Robert Downey Jr. as main protagonist for “Iron Man 4.”

Ty Simpkins played the role of Harley Keener in “Iron Man 3” and there were previous reports from as early as late last year that his character will take over the iron suit from Tony Stark, who will reportedly be retiring from his superhero work, or so the previous speculations say.

But according to Parent Herald, “Iron Man 4” will likely be released by Marvel Studios come the phase 3 of the Marvel cinematic universe which is around 2019 or after the showing of the second part of “Avengers: Infinity War.”

There were also reports that Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. were on a stalemate negotiation after the actor asked for an increase in his talent fee of $50 million, which is the amount he got for “Iron Man 3.”

No matter how high Robert Downey’s asking price is for “Iron Man 4,” Marvel Studios will not have difficulty meeting it considering that his last stand-alone film “Iron Man 3” is the eight highest-grossing movie of all time with its worldwide box office haul of $1.22 billion. So even if the actor asks for a significant raise on his $50 million salary which he got for “Iron Man 3” and “Avengers,” Marvel is sure to give in.

Word of advice

As Hollywood veteran actor Robert Duvall sees it, Robert Downey Jr. should not give up his Tony Stark role to anybody else when Marvel Studios decides to give the production of “Iron Man 4” a go in the future.

Duvall made the advice to Downey during a recent interview as the two actors were actually co-stars in the movie “Judge.”

But if it is up to Robert Downey Jr., he would sure like to hold on to the Tony Stark and Iron Man roles as those made him the highest paid actor in Hollywood for two years running. However, that decision is not on his hands. He even laughed at the notion that he has the authority to make a decision on it like he was a casting director for Marvel which he is not, reports Latino Post.

The only concern of the studio at this point is an oversaturation of “Iron Man” since Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark practically has a movie every year from 2014 up to possibly 2019.

By then, Marvel will be past the phase 3 of its cinematic universe and will be ready to do an “Iron Man 4.”

“Iron Man” comic

Marvel understands how fans are already anticipating the fourth installment of the “Iron Man” franchise. And in order to quench fan thirst for “Iron Man 4,” Marvel has decided to relaunch the “Iron Man” comic where the superhero will build a new kind of world.

Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez will oversee the relaunching of the “Iron Man” comic which accordingly will still feature Tony Stark in the iron suit. However, there will be some twist as he will have a new supporting cast, a new armor, and new villains to contend with too in the comic.

Iron Man 4

Although it seems that negotiations between Marvel Studios and Robert Downey Jr. are in a stalemate for “Iron Man 4,” the actor has commitments with the studio for the next four years which means that he will continue to reprise his role as Tony Stark and don the Iron Man suit in several other upcoming Marvel movies.

What is confirmed at this point among these movies are “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1,” and “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2” which have playdates of 2016, 2018, and 2019 respectively.

That leaves 2017 as the year where Robert Downey Jr. will not have a movie where he shall play Tony Stark and Iron Man.

However, it has been reported that the Spider-Man reboot solo movie will be shown in 2017 and Marvel may capitalize on the popularity of RDJ as Tony Stark and Iron Man and insert him into the movie just to give the refreshed web-slinging superhero a warm welcome to the Marvel cinematic universe and also into the Avengers.

Basing on the hectic schedule of Tony Stark and Iron Man in upcoming Marvel films, it is likely that an “Iron Man 4” movie will come out either in 2019 or 2020.

On the part of Robert Downey Jr., he is also not in a rush to do “Iron Man 4” in the event that he and Marvel Studios come to financial terms.

He said that Marvel has been stepping up its game when it comes to producing superhero movies and he also appreciates Kevin Feige and the creative minds of the studio for thinking and doing it that way.

I need to see Iron Man fight the REAL Mandarin this time!!!! I really thought you gave up the Iron Man role Robert. But you didn’t. I love you Robert Downey jr.! I can’t wait to see you fight the real Mandarin this time. I hope an actual Chinese actor plays as the Mandarin. This really will be an epic Iron Man movie! It’ll be better than that disappointing and god awful Iron Man 3. I really hope that Shane Black isn’t directing Iron Man 4.
