‘House of Cards Season 5 Will Most Likely Be the Last for Kevin Spacey, Rumors Suggest

The upcoming season of ‘House of Cards’ is highly rumored to be the last of Kevin Spacey and his character Frank Underwood.

The President is rumored to meet his demise throughout the next installment. Reports say that the scheming politician will either be killed by someone or will die of a natural cause by the end of this season.

Speculations say that someone close to the President will be responsible for his death which boils down to two characters.

Rumors say that either Michael Kelly’s Doug Stamper or Robin Wright’s Claire will carry out the plan to kill Frank.

While Doug has been loyal to a fault with Frank since the beginning of the series, some rumors point out that he will murder Frank because someone will force or blackmail him into doing it.

Claire, on the other hand, is a more potential suspect because of her thirst for power. Last season, her husband has already supported her vice presidential bid, but it looks like the First Lady has got her eyes on her husband’s post.

Some fans speculate that knowing Claire’s scheming ways, he doesn’t want to get her hands dirty so he will ask Frank’s loyal aide to do the killing for her.

There are also rumors that Frank will die because of natural cause particularly due to his liver disease, which was already hinted in the previous season.

Since the political drama is based on the British series of the same name, it is expected that Underwood will meet the same fate as Frank Urquhart did in the BBC mini-series.

There are also reports that season 5 is Spacey’s last season because the show will end as well. Rumors say that since series creator Beau Willimon departed after season 4, the show will also bid goodbye after this season.

After Willimon’s exit, Mellisa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese, who both joined the show during its third season, now serve as co-showrunners for the fifth season.

Movie News Guide reports that the current showrunners are now having contradicting ideas with Netflix for the future of the show hence the sparse details for the upcoming season.

There were speculations that the fourth season will be the last of the show as it’s British counterpart ended after 52 episodes, the number in the deck of cards in reference to the title.

Parent Herald notes that the show might have added an extra 13 episodes to give proper closure on some storylines and to give characters’ justice before closing the whole series.

Meanwhile, Ecumenical News states that the upcoming season will have a new woman enter the arena to challenge Claire’s presence as well as a new affair is rumored to presume in the Oval office.

In a recent interview, producer Dana Brunetti revealed that the season premiere will be a contrast to its previous seasons because the show now has to follow the network television route, possibly one of Netflix’s requirement.

Brunetti adds that the writers have not yet penned the end of the season because there are still a lot of negotiations going on and a lot of ideas are still being considered.

Some speculate that writers and Netflix are waiting for the results of the US elections before they plot the season to align the storyline to real life. The US elections will happen this November and the next President of America will be inaugurated in January.

However, Brunetti says that if that were the case then politicians in real life don’t stand a chance against the politicians portrayed on screen.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth Marvel is also rumored to leave the show. Marvel portrays Heather Dunbar, a lawyer and Solicitor General of the US in the Walker administration.
