There are just plenty of speculations around about Season 4 of the American political drama TV series “House of Cards” indicating two important things – the show is very popular and has a huge fanbase who almost can’t wait for its return on Netflix next year, and everything is up in the air as far as plotlines are concerned.
One of the more interesting speculations to be churned out by the rumor mill lately is that Doug Stamper, played by Michael Kelly, will finally see his end in the upcoming fourth season.
The irony of the rumors is that Doug will be put out of his miseries by Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, himself. It comes off as rather absurd since Doug has been a loyal ally of Frank since Day One. He has been with his side through thick and thin and even had to sacrifice his life for him a few times in the past, so the rumor should really be taken with a pinch of salt.
Accordingly, Frank would order the killing of Doug because other than Claire Underwood, played by Robin Wright, his loyal ally simply knows so much about him, details Yibada.
Not aware of what will happen to his character
In a recent interview, Michael Kelly said he has no clue as to what will happen next to his character. He admits though that he has heard the rumors that Doug will be killed off in the next season, but he does not want to confirm or deny it, cites the Vine Report.
He said that if it was up to him, he would not allow Doug to die just yet in Season 4 of “House of Cards” because personally, the TV series is the greatest gift he has ever received as an actor.
Kelly explained that his enthusiasm for his Doug role only grows as the days pass by. As a matter of fact, his high level of excitement on working for “House of Cards” has been consistent from Season 1 up to the ongoing filming of Season 4.
However, he also admits that the fate of his character in the TV series lies not on his but on the hands of the producers and writers. He joked that he would not be surprised if his character will be killed off since Doug has been somewhat of a fatalist anyway.
Drawing some parallelism
The fourth season of “House of Cards” may likely draw some parallelism with the US presidential elections when the show premieres on Netflix next year.
Showrunner Beau Willimon says that the possibility is there considering that “House of Cards” is treading on the same territory, but he said that whatever coincidences or parallelism that the TV series will have, it is not intentional.
Willimon reveals that while there will be similarities, they are obviously avoiding portraying real-life politics as the times of writing for the show would not sync up with the actual elections.
The creator said that whatever the similarities or coincidences that “House of Cards” may have on the US presidential elections next year, that is basically because they are reading the same headlines as much as today’s American people do.
However, he assured fans and real-life American politicians that “House of Cards” is not trying to deliberately parallel its plot with real life. Willimon said that it is just foolhardy to try because Season 4 of the TV series is being written in advance and several months before it airs on Netflix.
