Season 4 of the American political drama TV series “House of Cards” is set to premiere on Netflix on March 4 with much focus on Frank Underwood’s bid for re-election as President of the United States.
While the previous teaser about “House of Cards” focused more on the political ambitions of Frank, played by Kevin Spacey, to stay in the White House, despite the blowout breakup he had with his wife Claire, played by Robin Wright, during the Season 3 finale, the latest trailer of the TV series appears to be a big pail of cold water to douse Frank’s hopes.
Apparently, Frank’s past misdeeds will begin to catch up with him especially now that he and his wife have parted ways.
The latest teaser trailer released by Netflix for “House of Cards” Season 4 featured a Season 2 scene where Frank pushed Zoe Barnes, played by Kate Mara, in front of an oncoming train. Frank had to resort to his cold-blooded murderous instinct then because Zoe was close to revealing some of his misdeeds, notes E! Online.
It is not clear if the scene is meant to insinuate that Frank would be doing it again on Season 4 or that somebody, like Claire perhaps, would finally let the public and the world know who really Frank Underwood is behind his presidential façade.
Putting America back on track
As if to make the co-relation between the death of Zoe Barnes on the train tracks to Frank’s presidential campaign, the teaser also showed a poster for Frank’s presidential bid claiming that he will be putting America back on track.
And then there’s another poster that showed the line pushing America forward, which is an allusion again to how he pushed Zoe to her death during the Season 2 premiere, reports Collider.
Many of the viewers of “House of Cards” felt shortchanged by Season 3 because it deviated from its usual pace that was quite okay during the first two seasons.
It seems that the show will go back to its pace for Season 4 and there could not be a more interesting plotline than the looming showdown between Frank and Claire for the presidency perhaps. Critics actually think that any mere mortal would not dare get in the middle of such showdown.
Riding on the coattails of the US presidential elections
Last month, Netflix used the GOP debate on CNN to release the first official “House of Cards” Season 4 teaser, riding on the coattails of the upcoming US presidential election.
The teaser was in the form of a poster and a short clip which is cleverly constructed like a campaign ad. In it, Frank Underwood was quoted as saying to America that he was only getting started.
Critics look at his words as either a promise or a threat, depending on how people know the real Frank Underwood is, especially with his slippery Southern accent.
The image poster of the teaser also shows the incumbent American president carrying the official campaign title FU2016, obviously meant to drumbeat Frank Underwood for his presidential re-election hopes.
The “House of Cards” Season 4 teaser actually stole the thunder from the GOP debate that featured Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Donald Trump from the Republican debate.
For TV fanatics, it was obvious that it was Frank Underwood who emerged victorious that night, especially when the teaser also disclosed that “House of Cards” Season 4 shall officially premiere on Netflix on March 4.
It would be the first time that the American political drama TV series would premiere in March since, over the past three seasons, it has always begun its 13-episode run per season every February.
The producers have also taken the initiative to create an FU2016.com website to serve as Frank Underwood’s campaign site.
Over the course of three seasons of “House of Cards,” viewers have seen Frank Underwood climb from South Carolina congressman to vice president and to president via good-old fashion manipulation, blackmailing, and murder too.
