‘Homeland’ Season 6 to Highlight the Struggles of the First-Ever Female US President

Season 6 of the American political thriller drama TV series “Homeland” has been confirmed to air on Showtime on January 15 and it shall reportedly revolve around the presidential elections and the struggles of the first-ever female President of the United States.

Lest it is accused of being political and endorsing the candidacy of former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the upcoming presidential elections, the producers of “Homeland” are saying that the plotline has already been thought of even before America went into its current presidential election season.

And by the time that Season 6 of “Homeland” airs on Showtime early next year, the Americans have already chosen their next president and it could either be Hillary Clinton of the Democrats or Donald Trump of the Republicans.

Barrack Obama will officially move out of office on January 20 so the two-month transition from the election period to the formal entry of the next US President into the White House is what “Homeland” shall be highlighting in its Season 6.

The role of the newly-elected US president named Elizabeth Keane shall be taken on by Elizabeth Marvel.

Most of the scenes of “Homeland” Season 6 shall be filmed in the Big Apple but there will also be some gripping scenes in Abu Dhabi and Morocco, details the Christian Post.

Carrie’s daughter grows up

“Homeland” Season 6 shall only have a minor casting change and it shall involve Frannie Mathison, the daughter of lead protagonist Carrie Mathison, played by actress Claire Danes.

Frannie is the daughter of Carrie with Nicholas Brody, played by Damian Lewis, who was publicly executed in the third season of “Homeland.”

Germany-based twins Luna and Lotta Pfitzer previously swapped off to portray the character in the fourth and fifth season of the hit TV series. According to the report, the showrunners opted to tap a slightly older US-based child actress for the role in the upcoming Season 6 for production convenience.

It was the sighting of Claire Danes as Carrie during the filming of “Homeland” Season 6 in New York City recently that confirmed that Frannie would be replaced by another actress in the TV series, still a child but an older one.

The young girl who was cast on “Homeland” still has that signature strawberry blonde hair she supposedly inherited from her father. She and Claire Danes were acting out scenes that depicted Carrie Mathison as an involved parent. It looked like mother and child are getting along well and living a typical New York life, details the Parent Herald.

Now a major priority for Carrie

Frannie was born just months after her father was hanged in the Middle East in “Homeland” Season 3, while her mom remained on active duty with the CIA overseas. Unable to handle what has been going on in her life, Carrie left her daughter to the care of her sister, Maggie, played by Amy Hargreaves.

Carrie’s relationship with Frannie was unstable in the child’s first few years, but producers now say that the character will put her child as the priority and confirmed that the child will have a major presence in Season 6 of “Homeland.”

In addition to the new child actress who shall portray Frannie Mathison, “Homeland” Season 6 shall reportedly introduce new characters including Robert Knepper as General Jamie McClendon and Dominic Fumusa as FBI special agent Ray Conlin.

Hill Harper will also play the president’s chief of staff while Patrick Sabongui will portray the role of a CUNY law professor.

Immediately after the Season 5 finale of “Homeland,” Showtime renewed the show for three more seasons or up to Season 8. However, it seems likely that the TV series will no longer go beyond eight seasons.

The three-season renewal was still very much a good news for the producers and showrunner as they will have more than sufficient time to give the TV series a satisfying conclusion that it truly deserves.

From a September 2016 initial planned premiere date, Season 6 of “Homeland” has been pushed back to January 15 next year.

While some fans were initially worried that the push back in the release date of the show may mean that Season 6 is going to be the last for the TV series, the speculations were quashed when the show was renewed by Showtime a few days after its Season 6 finale in June for three more seasons

Showrunner Alex Gansa took the deferment in the premiere date of “Homeland” on a positive note saying that it is good and quite necessary as it gives the writers longer preparation time for writing stories.

In addition, the show’s pen pushers can also feed on what is happening in the US into the scripts considering that Season 6 will finally have America as its location after shooting in South Africa and Berlin in Season 4 and Season 5, respectively.

There is also the US presidential elections in November to draw inspiration from, as far as the writers are concerned, because there will be a lot of issues that can be crafted as perfect storylines for the TV series.

As a matter of fact, there are even rumors that a Donald Trump-like character would be coming out in Season 6 of “Homeland.” But such are mere speculations pending the confirmation from the showrunner, the producers, or the cast members.
