A lot happened in the last season of “Homeland”, and it looks like the upcoming season 6 is going to push things even further once it airs in the beginning of next year. We’ve seen some hints about the new season and what we can expect from it, and the showrunners have actually been quite open about some parts of their plan for the new episodes.
It looks like fans were wrong in some of their theories, especially with regards to Quinn. The character met a rather surprising fate and survived in a situation where he was expected to end up dead. And now he’s not only coming back in the new season, but he’s also going to be a bit different, according to reports.
Even though Quinn’s managed to survive, keeping his life didn’t come without a cost, as the stroke will end up changing him quite a bit. Whether or not this will have any major negative implications on the other characters is too early to tell, and the producers of the show haven’t been very open about that themselves.
However, they did hint that they are going to use Quinn’s character to portray some themes that have been relatively common in TV shows and films lately when it comes to terrorism-related plots. He will be portrayed as a victim to a large extent, but the situation might also be used for some contrast with those around him, and with Quinn himself.
Carrie will play a major role around him too, and the relationship between the two characters will likely be made a lot deeper and more involved during this season. In season 5, Carrie had to make some difficult choices about Quinn, and now it’s all coming back to her.
Speaking of Carrie, we’re going to see her going through some changes in her life once again, specifically with regards to her living location. The new season is going to show her living her life in Brooklyn and trying to adapt to some of the peculiar aspects of the local culture, while also working to help out in the local community.
Discussions about the new season also hinted that we’re going to see some controversial topics related to the portrayal of Muslims in modern society explored in detail, and themes like these could actually have a central place in this season.
And of course, there will be a heavy tie-in with current politics, although as some publications have pointed out, it’s not clear how much the show is going to touch on the hottest topic in this area at the moment, the US Presidential Election. We definitely expect to see it come up at certain points throughout the season though, as it’s too good of an opportunity for the producers to pass on.
Other than that, we haven’t heard many official reports about the show, although there has been no shortage of rumors. It sounds like the cast might expand in a noticeable way in season 6, and according to some fans, this makes sense in light of what happened recently.
Quinn’s new condition could call for a new addition to the cast of the show – or more – and now is a great time to play with some new relationships between some characters as well. “Homeland” may seem like a rather limited show when it comes to building deeper relationships between its characters, but it actually has a very strong potential there.
Plus, Carrie will also find herself in a new situation and she might benefit from seeing some fresh new faces around her, giving the producers another opportunity for some new characters.
Of course, depending on how the situation between her and Quinn evolves, these could both be moot points, but we’ll have to wait until the new season is here to find out. And with several more months to go before it arrives, fans will have plenty of time to discuss some of the more interesting theories about the show at length.
When “Homeland” comes back in January 2017, it should be obvious pretty quickly if the show is about to introduce any new characters or if it’s going to rely on the same cast for the most part.
If new people are being introduced, we would expect to see them in the very first episode of the new season. If not, there should at least be some hints about the possibility of seeing new characters.
The producers of “Homeland” have shown that they have a bit of a strange way of introducing new characters to the show from time to time, but it all works out relatively soon after that in most cases. Let’s just hope that whatever they’re planning for season 6 is actually going to be a positive change for the show, and won’t jeopardize its future in any way.
