‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ to Begin with the Ravagers Questioning the Allegiance of Youndu, Director’s Brother Reveals

Director James Gunn has a brother named Sean who shall be playing Yondu’s first mate Kraglin in the upcoming 15th movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”

Kraglin, just like Yondu, is part of the Ravagers, who were out to get Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt, for double crossing them with the Infinity Stone as shown in the first movie released in theaters in 2014.

Sean Gunn revealed in a recent interview that the first scenes of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” happen just a couple of months after the first movie.

He disclosed that the Ravagers will wonder why Yondu, played by Michael Rooker, is not going hard against Peter Quill. He added that they would then question the allegiance of Yondu whether he is still with the Ravagers or with the Guardians already since he has gone soft on Peter Quill, reports NME.

Gunn said that his character will be a key part of the decision of the Ravagers on what to do with Yondu.

A science-fiction film

When asked recently to compare “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” with the first movie, Director James Gunn said that the first film is more of a space opera while the upcoming one is going to be a science-fiction film.

When it was released to theaters in 2014, “Guardians of the Galaxy” earned almost $775 million prompting Marvel Studios to map out a sequel immediately.

However, the success of the first film also puts undue pressure on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” to do well at the box office and fans and critics expectations are also sky high, notes the Independent of UK.

The first teaser for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” was released last month and already featured the Guardians returning in full force including Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana’s Gamora and Dave Bautista’s Drax all appear in the sneak peek. They are also joined by Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel’s Baby Groot.

New costumes for the Guardians

Based on the trailer, it seems that the Guardians shall have new costumes and the teaser actually showed Star-Lord having that automatic self-wearing mask that resembles that of Ant-Man’s.

The 80-second trailer also teased of the likely break-up of Star-Lord and Gamora as Drax the Destroyer is seen consoling Star-Lord onboard their space craft and was quoted as saying that Star-Lord just needs to find someone who is pathetic like him.

But instead of getting angry with the advice, Star-Lord thanked Drax for his ‘words of encouragement’ and hugged him for being a good buddy and Drax even said welcome afterward. It only shows that there would be plenty of hilarious scenes and antics from the Guardians for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” when it hits global theaters on May 5, 2017.

The music of the trailer was also very upbeat with the track “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Swede.

But what excited fans of the first trailer is towards the end when Rocket Raccoon was showing blasting a hole using a big gun and he turned around and he was seen carrying none other than a wee-sized Groot on his shoulder.

Guardians of the Galaxy

It could be recalled that Groot sort of died during the first movie but a part of him was planted and towards the end, it also showed that the plant has grown to become a seedling. It seems that he would get bigger until he reaches the same size again in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”

There were rumors last year saying that veteran Hollywood actor Al Pacino was being considered to play the role of Star-Lord’s father in the sequel to the surprise Marvel hit movie of 2014, “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
