Ghostbusters 3: Can Gillian Anderson Successfully Carry-Out a Comic Character?

Remember the 80’s blockbuster, Ghostbusters? Yes, the one with Bill Murray. There’s good news for the fans of the hit franchise. The official word for a remake is out. Ghostbusters 3 is on the cards. You think that’s news enough for celebration? Wait a second. This remake is going to be different in the sense that it is going to have an all female star cast.

Paul Feig, the director of the hilarious Bridesmaid, is set to work his magic here too. Working on the script with him will be Katie Dippold of The Heat. These two are talented in their individual fronts and now when they are teaming up for a project, the outcome is set to be a cracking one.

With the announcement of an all female cast by Feig, there has been much speculation about who will make the cut for Ghostbusters 3. The original Ghostbusters starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson was brilliant, and there are a lot of expectations to meet with the new installment.

The media is abuzz with reports that X-File actress, Gillian Anderson wants to be a part of it. While answering fan questions on Reddit Q&A, she found out about the possibility of an all female cast for Ghostbusters 3 and expressed a strong urge to be a part of the project. She asked Ghostbusters 3 director, Feig to consider her and asked fans to start a Twitter petition to help her bag the role.

Gillian Anderson has portrayed characters like the level-headed Scully in The X-Files, The Fall‘s stoic and reserved Stella Gibson and her recent turn as Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier in Hannibal. These characters had nothing to do with comedy and humor.

They were strong, bold characters. Since Gillian has no experience in comedy, industry experts feel she would be a good choice for Ghostbusters 3. It will help her break her stereotypical image on the screen and give her an opportunity to shut her critics.

Other contenders who might get to don the overalls are likely to be Melissa McCarthy, Linda Cardellini and Emma Stone. Bill Murray, who was casted as Dr. Peter Venkman in the 1985 flick, came up with these names when asked which actresses he thought would do a good job in Ghostbusters 3.

The prospect daunts the actresses who are speculated to be a part of Ghostbusters. McCarthy feels that it is a legendary film, and it will be quite a challenge. Although there are no official words yet, about the supposed star cast, it is only a matter of time before it is announced.
