The gameplay trailer of the upcoming action video game “Star Wars: Battlefront” developed by Digital Illusion CE (DICE) and to be published by Electronic Arts (EA) has received a standing ovation when it was privately shown at the recently-concluded Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015 held at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, Califonia.
The first person shooter video game, which will be officially released to the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, and the PC on December 2015, was showcased by EA to select few partners at the GDC 2015 behind closed doors.
The game is actually the third in a series of similarly-titled video games that is why it is being referred to by gamers as “Star Wars: Battlefront 3.” In reality however, the game’s official title is “Star Wars: Battlefront” and it is technically different from the first two video games.
Superb ovation
No less than EA CEO Peter Moore confirmed the positive reaction of the few people who witnessed the gameplay trailer of “Star Wars: Battlefront” in his tweet on March 3 that detailed the preview was a great show with friends and partners. He also cited the superb ovation for the latest gameplay footage of “Star Wars: Battlefront.”
A few hours later of the same day, Moore posted in his Twitter account again and showed a photo of himself being flanked by some Star Wars troopers and rebel forces, reported Gamepur.
Following the closed-door release of the gameplay trailer of “Star Wars: Battlefront,” speculations are now rife that EA may actually release the same footage in the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015 to be held on June 16-18 at the LA Convention Center in California.
Simultaneous release with the film
Initial reports stated that the original release date for the “Star Wars: Battlefront” was supposed to be this coming summer but EA decided to move it to December 2015 so that it will be simultaneous with the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
The seventh installment to the Star Wars movie saga is slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2015 and having the release date of the video game the same as the opening day on movies will do “Star Wars: Battlefront” good not only in terms of promotions but also in sales.
EA chief executive officer Andrew Wilson made the official announcement on the release date of “Star Wars: Battleground” as early as October last year via his Twitter account.
Subsequently, EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen confirmed that the video game will be a first-person shooter video game. It is to be EA’s major first-person shooter game for 2015. That is what actually distinguishes it from the first two video games because the previous versions were both a third and first-person shooter video game.
Some of the gamers also believe that EA should add a third-person mode for the game similar to the first two video games. They think that the third-person mode was one of the key selling points of the first two video games so it should be included too.
