Gameplay Trailer Demo of ‘Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain’ Shows its Major Deviation from the Series

Although fans were delighted to see the gameplay trailer of the open-world action adventure stealth video game “Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain” at the recently-concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015 held in Los Angeles, California early this week, those who have had the opportunity to play the game during the event can’t help but notice how it deviated from the series altogether.

But then, it was just a preview of the game so nobody can tell at this point whether it will go back to its original plotline, notes The Verge.

Game experts and critics said the trailer has all the traces of Hideo Kojima written all over it. It was dubbed as creepy, hypnotic and insanely weird.

The trailer started with a cassette tape playing while Snake walked around with blood all over. There were also a couple of dead people laid on the halls. The narration started saying that Snake’s views are changing and that he is beginning to see a new light.

Then, there was a change in narration. The clip showed a bathroom with a cassette labeled, “From the Man Who Sold the World.” There were also scenes showing Snake and his allies being wounded. They also showed Ocelot, Emmerich, Code Talker, Quiet and Skull Face.

About halfway through the trailer, a blonde woman appeared. She seemed to have no idea on what was happening around her. She could either be one of the test subjects of the experiment or she could be a supporting character or an evil villain. Now, other women started walking in using an advanced camouflage, just like that of Quiet’s. Even though there were soldiers, they were acting like zombies.

Then, there was a cryptic scene where they showed a guy wearing a gas mask. The mystery person has a red hair who is believed to be the Psycho Mantis. A child also appeared on the trailer. This could be the Eli character who was suspected to be the younger version of Liquid Snake. There are no details on the mech that was revealed in the trailer but critics suggest that there will be a preview of the prototype for the Metal Gear Rex.

The last shots were those of the child. Finally, the video ended with the twin while there was an overlay of words saying, “Les Enfants Terribles.” This is said to be the code name of the project that was aimed to create a Snake clone. Therefore, it is safe to conclude that the twins were Solid Snake and Liquid Snake.
