‘Game of War: Fire Age’ Ushers New Marketing Strategy by Replacing Kate Upton with Mariah Carey as Image Model

Game developer Machine Zone has decided to replace supermodel-turned-actress Kate Upton with music diva Mariah Carey as image model in its mobile game “Game of War: Fire Age.” Machine Zone, based in Palo Alto, California, will proceed to engage Mariah Carey in a half-minute commercial video of the mobile game, which will also feature Mariah’s own music.

According to TMZ, Mariah Carey has scored a seven-figure deal with the game developers. The shoot will last for two days. Other promotions will also be included, and Mariah will earn quite a lot with the deal since “Game of War: Fire Age” reportedly earns up to $1 million a day.

In her comments about Mariah Carey replacing her as image model of the mobile game, Upton indicated her approval for the replacement, citing that she believes that Mariah is gonna be awesome. Mariah Carey is not new to doing commercial shoots for top brands as she has already done so in the past with Pepsi and AT&T.

The developers of “Game of War: Fire Age” had reportedly spent approximately $40 million on marketing on top of their social media advertising. The game is considered to be among top-grossing game apps of 2014.  Television commercials used Kate Upton’s attractive physique in videos where she is portrayed as the goddess Athena with the backdrop of battles in fantasy surroundings.

The game was released on July 25, 2013, on the iOS platform. One of the main features of the game is an automatic translation engine, which allows players worldwide to engage in alliances and fight battles. The translation engine, powered by Microsoft and Google Translate, enables a global gameplay among gamers, with an unlimited number of participants. Teams can attach their alliances to a kingdom and reach unlimited numbers of alliances, which can increase to as many as 100 people.

Gameplay consists of body-building techniques and gathering resources in order to produce troops, make research advancements, and create buildings. The game focuses on gaining allies in strategies, and like most other mobile games, it involves choosing an action and then waiting for the task to be finished, or have it advanced by making payment.

The battles center around thrones. The one who wins claim ownership to the throne and may become the king of the game. The online multiplayer can gather hundreds of thousands of players in the role-playing mobile game. According to Gabriel Laydon, the chief executive of Machine Zone, that is just what the company is aiming for.  He said that they wanted to put an incredible number of people together in the same world through the technologies that they have invented to make it happen.

Game of War: Fire Age

“Game of War: Fire Age” is an empire-building game. A player needs to raise an army, make weapons, team up in alliances, all of which contributes to the success and final score in the game. The translation system is incorporated in the gameplay chat, and it can even take whole phrases and translate them. However, there are phrases the chat is unable to translate. In this case, it shows the phrase or sentence to other players, who can translate it by themselves. In addition, the translate system offers rewards to those who participate in the translation via food, alliance loyalty points, silver, and gold.
