The first “Frozen” was a huge hit, perhaps even a bigger one than most were expecting, including its own producers. It wasn’t surprising to anyone that rumors of a sequel started circulating shortly after the original film came out, but up until recently we didn’t have any official confirmation that a sequel was happening – or even planned. Now though, the situation has changed, as the producers have finally come forward and admitted that they are indeed working on a sequel.
More recently, we got some details about the plot of the upcoming film. It will once again focus on Elsa and Anna, and this time it will show the two going up against an evil king, who will apparently be the main villain of the story. Reports claim that Chris Buck is taking some serious inspiration from “Ozma of Oz” for the story of “Frozen 2”, though it’s hard to say exactly what that could imply for the plot of the new film.
Some have speculated that the story will be focused on the notion of a person having the power to make the necessary changes within themselves, and only having to reach in and use it to succeed. This was a heavily touched topic in “Ozma of Oz”, and it could easily be tied into the story of “Frozen 2”, leading many fans to believe that this is going to be a major plot element in the new film.
Buck also revealed a curious detail about the production/writing work – apparently, the crew is working on the plot backwards, and the ending of the film is already completed, at least in writing. However, the film itself is far from finished, as they still have a lot to figure out in the middle, including most of the important details.
Judging by online discussion boards, some fans were apparently surprised by the revelation, as they had no idea that films were sometimes written this way. The general impression seems to be that a film is written in a linear progression style, starting from the beginning and ending up at the conclusion. It’s often much easier to set the important plot points first though, and then work out on the details in between them, according to industry veterans.
It makes sense too, because the way this film ends would have a major impact on the progression of the franchise in the future – if they decide to make further films, that is. Judging by the fact that they want to leave the story in a specific state, this could be a hint that they’re specifically leaving the door open for a sequel.
