The “Fast & Furious” franchise is still going strong, even though many of its fans were convinced that the seventh film would be the last installment in the series. Many people simply could not imagine the films moving forward after the death of Paul Walker, and yet there are already talks about a new film in the works. We don’t know any specific details that would be of interest to fans yet, but at least it seems like the project is being taken very seriously.
Vin Diesel is definitely excited about it, and he is apparently determined to carry the memory of his friend Paul Walker forward by continuing to work on the iconic franchise. And according to many fans and critics, it’s definitely the right thing to do as there is still a huge potential in “Fast & Furious”, someone just has to put it good use.
A rumor that has started to circulate the internet lately seems to imply that a very prominent name will be tasked with directing the new film. Gary Gray, most recently known for his work on “Straight Outta Compton”, could be joining the production crew in this role. The rumors started from a picture posted by Vin Diesel, and even though there is little official information on that situation right now, fans immediately got very excited at the possibility.
According to many critics, the director’s unique touch might be just what the franchise needs to move forward, and we could see a very interesting new entry in the series if that rumor turns out to be true. Of course, there is a lot of time to go before we start hearing more detailed information about the new production, and a lot could change until then. But on the other hand, it’s not really in Vin Diesel’s style to mislead his fans with red herrings, and the director has been mostly straightforward with regards to his work throughout the years. Because of this, many fans have started discussing the situation as if it’s already been confirmed that Gray has joined the production.
In any case, we should find out who will be directing the film soon, as pre-production is expected to begin very shorty, followed by the actual production around the beginning of 2016. Vin Diesel apparently wants to make this release a faster one, but hopefully this isn’t going to have any negative implications on the quality of the final product. Diesel is generally known for having very high standards for his work and we don’t expect that he would rush a film so important to him, so there is probably no point in worrying about that right now.
There have also been rumors about special surprises supposedly coming with the new film, but of course that is quite open to interpretation and it could imply many different things. Especially when it comes to a production like that – it’s probably reasonable to expect that Vin Diesel has prepared something more unique for his fans. If the film really is getting a new director, then it could really come with some interesting changes to the formula.
In the end, it might make sense for Diesel to do something to spice up the franchise as some fans have been having minor complaints about its originality lately. “Fast & Furious 7” helped that a bit as the new film was quite fresh and innovative in some aspects, but the franchise needs to evolve sooner or later.
